This paper is dedicated to hallucinogenic cactus Lophophora williamsii and its ritual usage in indigenous Huichol and the Tarahumara groups living in Northwest Mexico. The author describes the history of the use of this cactus, its effects, especially compared to its role in the life of the Huichol and the Tarahumara.

The major objective of the thesis is the introduction of the Huichol people. This thesis focuses mainly on their religion and rituals which make up a large part of their lifestyle, connection with the Peyote cactus and also current problems in the multicultural world. All of the information in thesis is based on a study of available literature.
