A review study of abutments in dental implantology
Palkovič, Patrik ; Hájek, Petr (referee) ; Thomková, Barbora (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of the influence of different types of abutments on the stress-strain states of the mandible with an inserted dental implant. The thesis focuses on two types of abutments, namely straight abutments and angled abutments. Furthermore, the thesis discusses the influence of bone tissue quality on the stress-strain states in the mandible with an inserted dental implant. Computational modelling using the finite element method (FEM) was used to assess the stress-strain states, specifically ANSYS Workbench software was used. Computational models of the mandible with dental implant were created with three abutment variations with different angles. Additionally, stress-strain states were determined for different bone tissue qualities. Analysis of the results showed that angled abutments lead to greater strain of the bone tissue and greater implant stresses compared to straight abutments. The influence of bone tissue quality on the stress-strain states was significant in terms of bone tissue strain. Bone tissue quality did not significantly affect the stress on the implant.
A review study of dental mini-implants
Pernický, Vojtěch ; Hrubanová, Anna (referee) ; Marcián, Petr (advisor)
This thesis focuses on the study of dental mini-implants, which are becoming a popular choice for replacing missing teeth and retaining overdentures. The insertion of mini-implants is a less invasive procedure that minimizes damage to bone tissue, which shortens the patient's recovery time. One of the key advantages is the possibility of immediate loading of the implant. However, the smaller diameter of these implants means a smaller surface area for osseointegration, which can negatively affect their stability and functionality. This thesis deals with the analysis of deformation and stress states by using computational modeling. The results of this analysis are compared with standard implants to evaluate the mechanical behaviour of mini-implants and their interaction with bone tissue. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be said that the diameter of the implant significantly influences its deformation-stress states.

Stress - strain analysis of jaw with decrease bone tissue
Krpalek, David ; Fuis, Vladimír (referee) ; Florian, Zdeněk (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with stress - strain analysis of jaw with decrease of bone tis-sue. At first was created a model of geometry using graphic program Rhinoceros 4.0 upon acquisition by the 3D scanner. That was converted to the computational system ANSYS Workbench 11 which uses for solving the finite element method (FEM). Solving was executed with homogenous, linear and isotropic material model of bone with different characteristics for compact and cancellous bone. Forces of the three working muscles, which participate on chewing, were given on the basis of the force and moment balance mandible. Solving was executed for 12 variant simulating occlusion in places, where was earlier found teeth.
Stress-strain analysis of mandible with applied fixator due to the missing bone tissue
Fňukal, Jan ; Valášek, Jiří (referee) ; Marcián, Petr (advisor)
This thesis deals with the fixation of lower jaw with bone tissue defect using commercially produced fixator. Large defects of bone tissue are mainly caused due to the removal of bone tissue affected by tumor. These topics have been researched on the basis of the literature. Subsequently, stress strain analysis of the lower jaw with the applied fixation plate was performed. This analysis was solved by using computational modeling with variational approach, ie the finite element method. The work also describes in detail the procedure of creating model of geometry, model of material, model of boundary conditions and loads with subsequent solution of several computational models. The stress strain analysis was done for lower jaw with varying size of the removed bone tissue with applied reconstruction plate made of CP-Ti Grade 4 and for the lower jaw with the plate, which is made of -Ti-Mo. Finally, the influence of the mechanical properties of the callus during formation of new bone tissue (callus healing) on the stress and deformation of the solved system was evaluated.
Effect of location and orientation of dental implant on stress-strain states in mandibular bone
Thomková, Barbora ; Valášek, Jiří (referee) ; Marcián, Petr (advisor)
The master’s thesis deals with issues belonging to the field of dental biomechanics, specifically the mechanical interaction of dental implants with the bone tissue of the mandible. The thesis focuses on the stress-strain analysis of the mandible with the implant inserted in different positions, with a different angle relative to the occlusal plane. The solution is performed by computational modeling using the finite element method. The geometry model of mandible was created based on CT images. The aim of the master’s thesis was also to compare the influence of the choice of the material model of cancellous bone tissue on the resulting stress-strain states of the mandible with the dental implant. Three material models of cancellous bone tissue were created - two homogeneous material model and a heterogeneous material model, which was based on CT image data. The work also investigates the effect of rotation (+5° or -5°) of implants in basic positions on the resulting stress-strain states. The stress-strain analysis showed that position and rotation has a greater effect on the stress and strain of bone tissue and implant than the chosen material model of cancellous bone tissue.

Valášek, Jiří ; Janíček, Přemysl (referee) ; Horyl, Petr (referee) ; Florian, Zdeněk (advisor)
Presented work deals with Biomechanical study of the facial skeleton. This work is focused on the fixation of the mandible after removal of a tumor from affected bone tissue. The aim of the work is to perform biomechanical study of the facial skeleton with subsequent detailed stress strain analysis of two mandible implants designed and manufactured for specific patients. The geometry model of mandible used for design of mandible implants and used for computational modelling has been obtained on the basis of CT data of two patients. A Theoretical-Clinical sub-study that deals with the comparison the CT data processing which is necessary for creating the model of geometry is a part of the thesis. Two models of mandible with applied mandible implant have been created for two specific patients with tumorous mandible bone tissue. Stress strain analysis has been performed for these two models. Results of the stress strain analysis of two models of mandibles with mandible implants are presented in the final chapters of the thesis. Findings of the biomechanical study have been published and applied in clinical practice.
Stress - strain analysis of jaw with tooth implant type BOI
Marcián, Petr ; Fuis, Vladimír (referee) ; Florian, Zdeněk (advisor)
Submitted master thesis deals with stress - strain analysis of jaw, with dental implant. The implant serve as a suitable pillar for crown or dental bridge, when one or more teeth are lost. The project is oriented on BOI (basale - oseo - integrable) dental implant type, which is produced by DENTALIHDE company. Stress – strain condition of the mandible system with implant have been established by computational simulation, with use of the final elements method. Important part of down jowl is simulated on with EDS and EDDS applied types of implants. After implementation the implant begins to heal. Therefore the special attention is paid to stress - strain states on various level of osteointegration. There is a detail description of production of single part computational model and his solving in the master thesis. Presentation of large chapter with results and subsequent alteration stress - strain analysis is part of the master thesis. Program SolidWorks 2005 was used to create the geometric model. Computational model and the actual solving was accomplished with use of ANSYS 11.0 and ANSYS Wor-kbench systems.
Analysis of forces acting on the mandible during chewing
Thomková, Barbora ; Hájek, Petr (referee) ; Marcián, Petr (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with cranio-maxillo-facial biomechanics by analysing the force of the lower jaw during chewing. In the thesis, research study of literary sources dealing with the force of the lower jaw is carried out, from which the information obtained was used for subsequent analysis of the force effect on the lower jaw during chewing. The solution is made referring to computational modelling, analytical methods and also numerical by using FEM. The analytical solution was made on the assumption that the lower jaw is a rigid body and solved the magnitude of the contact forces in the bonds and the bite force that was considered at different positions using equations of equilibrium. The numerical solution was computed by using the ANSYS Workbench software. Two types of kinematic bonds (spherical and fixed support) in the condyle areas were solved and compared. The first type was identical with the analytical solution. Spherical bonds were prescribed at the place of the condyles. The second type of bonds was chosen on the basis of literature. Fixed support bonds were selected in both condyles. The results were compared for both approaches related to solution and the biting forces were compared with the experimentally determined values reported by the literature.
Prediction of mechanical properties of the cancellous bone tissue of the mandible
Holá, Lucia ; Valášek, Jiří (referee) ; Thomková, Barbora (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with a problem from the field of biomechanics, specifically to determine mechanical properties of cancellous bone tissue of lower jaw and is focused on Young´s modulus of elasticity and apparent bone density detection. In this thesis a research of studies that were focused on determining a relationship between E and apparent density of trabecular bone is firstly included. Then solution is made using computational modeling using finite element method on the model of lower jaw that was constructed from CT scans. In the SolidWorks software, 12 cubes were made and inserted into the model that was later used in software called ANSYS Workbench, to calculate force reactions and E value using CT number values also calculated in the software. Calculated values of force reactions were then used for Young´s modulus calculation for each axis x,y and z using equations obtained from literature. Next solution was made using the ImageJ program in which values of Hounsfield units were obtained and later recalculated into apparent density values using mathematical relations. Then values of E as a function of CT number and E values obtained from mathematical relation were compared. Lastly the relationships between E and density were determined.
