NOVOTNÁ, Lucie
The thesis deals with Marian cult in South Bohemia. First the thesis provides an overview of the origins and development of Pietas Mariana in Europe and especially in the Czech Lands from the 9th century to the present time. A rise of the Marian cult could be observed in Bohemia and Moravia even in the Baroque period and among those members of the orders who considered the Virgin Mary to be their founder, protector or patron. Marian piety, Marian places of pilgrimage and Marian lay communities played also an important role in the so-called ``Marian century{\crqq} (1854-1950). The last but one chapter provides a brief summary of Marian places of pilgrimage in South Bohemia (churches, chapels, wells) including their legends, stories and miracles. The last chapter describes six best known Marian places of pilgrimage in the diocese of České Budějovice in detail (e.g. Chlum u Třeboně, Klokoty, Lomec, Římov, Sepekov and Svatý Kámen u Rychnova nad Malší).
