Czech Amazons: The Maiden's War in art of the 19th century.

This bachelor thesis focuses on artistic works derived from the Czech national legend "The Maidens' War" and related themes such as Amazons and female warriors within the artistic period of the 19th century. The thesis includes an analysis of the most significant contemporary and historical literary sources that inspired the authors of these artistic works. Furthermore, the thesis provides a catalog listing of works depicting the theme of the Maidens' War, with descriptions and analyses of specific examples of paintings or sculptures. The thesis will explore parallels with the ancient Amazons and their literary interpretations, which serve as prototypes for the story from Czech mythology. The thesis also addresses the position and perception of women in the contemporary Czech society of the 19th century, reflecting on the figure of the female warrior and the female muse in society and culture of the 19th century. The goal of the thesis is to present the repertoire of Czech art from the 19th century focusing on the theme of the Maidens' War and, based on cultural and social aspects, evaluate the popularity of depicting this theme and the interrelationships between the depicted works and other artistic forms such as literature, theater, and music.
