Cosmetics preparations against acne
Měšťánková, Zuzana ; Skoumalová, Petra (referee) ; Němcová, Andrea (advisor)
Hemp is a plant containing a number of active substances that can be used in cosmetics and pharmacy. The subject of this bachelor thesis is the multiplication of active substances by mixing cannabis with herbs that have anti-inflammatory effects. The theoretical part contains a description of the determined antioxidants and cannabinoids. The experimental part focuses on measuring the content of these substances in extracts created from the dry parts of herbs and hemp variety Ferimon. The work is also focused on the preparation of a cream containing cannabis and herbal extracts, which are aimed at inhibiting the formation of acne. The antimicrobial effect of creams and extracts was investigated on bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and Micrococcus luteus. The analysis of the extracts shows that the largest amount of active substances contained a mixture of mountain arnica and hemp, which also showed a good antimicrobial effect against both types of bacteria. The creams showed a low inhibitory effect due to the low content of active substances.
Use of technical hemp in acne preparations
Žáčková, Kristýna ; Kovalčík, Adriána (referee) ; Němcová, Andrea (advisor)
Hemp belongs among important plants with a long industrial tradition. However, its first use was originally for healing. In medicine, it is mainly applied thanks to the content of many biologically active substances, such as cannabinoids. This thesis is concerned with the use of hemp in acne preparations. The theory focuses mainly on the characterization of hemp and its active substances. The other chapters deals with cosmetic preparations and acne itself, and Propionibacterium acnes as well, which is involved. Within the experimental part, the extracts of two hemp varieties (Finola and Bialobrzeskie) were characterized in terms of antioxidant and cannabinoid presence. The cosmetic preparations with hemp extract content were prepared including a complete cleansing set for acne skin, concurrently commercial products of this sort were purchased. In cosmetic preparations and the extracts their inhibitory effect against Propionibacterium acnes was studied as well. Also Micrococcus luteus, Escherichia coli and Candida glabrata were tested. The results show that dried hemp flower extracts contain the greatest amount of active substances, so they have a higher antioxidant and antimicrobial effect. The presence of individual cannabinoids differed mainly depending on the variety. All hemp extracts had effect against gram-positive bacteria, in cosmetic preparations it was lower. Nevertheless hemp antibacterial effect has been proven.
Analysis of aroma compounds in cosmetics by gas chromatography
Divišová, Radka ; Vítová, Eva (referee) ; Zemanová, Jana (advisor)
This thesis is focused on aroma compounds which are presented in a wide variety of products including perfume, cologne, cosmetics, toiletries, laundry products and detergens. The widespread use and exposure to aroma compounds of aforementioned products could cause a range of the adverse reactions such as contact dermatitis, asthma, eczema and breathing problems. There are a lot of aroma compounds triggering negative allergic reactions but EU regulations limit 26 the most important fragrance allergens. The presence of these substances has to be declared on the product label if a limit of 0,01 % for rinse off and 0,001 % for leave-on products is exceeded. Of these 26 substances, a methodology was elaborated for determination of 12 allergens in a experimental part of this thesis. A method by solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) was applied for fragrance allergens identification, extraction and measurement. The optimal extraction conditions of SPME-GC method were investigated including equilibrium time, extraction time and extraction temperature to increase extraction efficiency. Another important point is the method by SPME-GC-FID was validated and following performance parameters were determined: repeatability, linearity, limit of detection (LOD) limit of quantitation (LOQ). SPME-GC-FID was tested and applied to real samples.
Silver based raw materials for cosmetic purposes
Čaková, Adriana ; Ďubašáková, Mária (referee) ; Zemanová, Jana (advisor)
The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis was a research about silver based cosmetic products and determination of antimicrobial activity on certain species of microorganisms by chosen silver based cosmetic products. Theoretical part is focused on the problematics of silver based cosmetic products, on their main purpose, physically chemical characteristics and toxicological profile. In the theoretical part is also mentioned problematics of legislative, mainly the safety and real effectivity of tested cosmetic products. Experimental part was focused on determination of antimicrobial activity of chosen silver based cosmetic products. Two silver based cosmetic product were used to determined antimicrobial activity on selected microorganisms Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Micrococcus luteus, Kocuria rosea, Serratia marcescens a Candida vini. From result it is apparent, that both of used Cosmetic product showed antimicrobial activity, but not on every used microorganism.
Sun protection factors determination for cosmetic emulsions
Slechanová, Veronika ; Jugl, Adam (referee) ; Smilek, Jiří (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with the anatomy and physiology of the skin, ultraviolet rays, sunscreens and current methods used to measure the value of sun protection factor. One of the goals of the thesis is to get the overview of the UV filters currently widely used in cosmetic products and giving them the required protection against the sun. The obtained knowledge was subsequently used for the determination of the sun protection factors in selected sunscreens by in vitro methods. The measurement provided satisfying results comparable with the values given on the label of the tested products. However, it is still necessary to optimize the methodology even more in order to obtain data with lower deviations and especially with much higher reproducibility.
Potravinářství jako zdroj bioaktivních látek pro kosmetické přípravky
Holá, Julie
The diploma thesis “The Food Industry as a Source of Bioactive Ingredients for Cosmetic Products” deals with issue of food components that have potential to be used as cosmetic raw materials. The thesis then focuses on components of milk that can be used in cosmetics. The practical part consists of the preparation of nutricosmetic beverage made from acid and sweet whey with suitable flavours. Sweet whey was obtained as a by-product in the production of fresh cheese. Acid whey was obtained by coagulation of milk with L-ascorbic acid. Sensory analysis and determination of basic parameters (active acidity, titratable acids, lactose, fat and protein) of the beverage were performed.
CITES plants in cosmetic products
JAKUBCOVÁ, Claudia
This thesis deals with the properties of endangered plant species listed in CITES Appendices that are contained in cosmetic products on the Czech market and the characteristics of these products. The attitude and responsibility of companies towards environmental protection issues and the evaluation of these cosmetic products by users were investigated by questionnaires. A total of 20 species were found in 90 cosmetic products, of which 12 representatives were from the family of Orchideaceae, two species of cacti (Selenicereus grandiflorus, Opuntia ficus-indica), ginseng (Panax ginseng, Araliacae), Aloe ferox (Asphodelaceae), Euphorbia antisyphilitica (Euphorbiaceae), Aniba rosodora (Lauraceae), Aquilaria malaccensis (Thymelleaceae), Cyathea medullaris (Cyatheaceae). No cases of collection in the wild were found. All the evidence shows that the plants used in cosmetics are cultivated and therefore the CITES Convention is not violated. Users were satisfied with the cosmetic products.
