The concept of the contemporary author in case of J. K. Rowling

The concept of the contemporary author in case of J. K. Rowling The diploma thesis deals with the contemporary concept of the author which is examined on the specific case of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the biography of the author and the previous philosophical theories concerning the concept of the author and his/her role in the identity of the literary work. The main authors of the theories are Roland Barthes, Michel Foucault, and Umberto Eco, whose concept is crucial for this thesis. The research part presents specific styles of writing which are characteristic for authors and applies this theory to the analysis of two literary works of J. K. Rowling. The conclusion of the thesis is the summary of the research and an attempt to define the concept of the contemporary author. Fastasy genre and his use at work with children and youth in the free time

This thesis focuses on the fantasy genre and its use in the work with children in free time. Based on the research of the popularity of the genre among young children I chose the novel about H. Potter as an inspiration for my project. The theoretical part mentions reading preferences survey among Czech children conducted in 2013 - 2014, which was implemented by the Librarianship Institute of the National Library of the Czech Republic. The thesis also includes findings about the genre preferences which the author verified in the Research Library of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. The theoretical part also contains a definition of the fantasy genre, brief introduction to the life and literary work of the author. The practical part presents a specific project and its verification in practice, which was inspired by H. Potter book. The project is focused on children aged 8-11 years and took place at the afterschool club of the Elementary School in Trhové Sviny. Finally, the thesis brings the final reflection and conclusion.
