This thesis deals with a novel The Two Churches written by an important Italian writer of the second half of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first century, Sebastiano Vassalli. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is dedicated to the life and work of Sebastiano Vassalli. The second part focuses on the compositional, thematic, and narrative analysis of the novel.
Political Motives in Dante's "Divina Commedia"

The aim of this thesis is to sumarize the elemets of Dante's political ideas, to order and to highlight them according to the evolution of Dante's political belief was evolving via the Divine Comedy where we can see the beggining of his political opinion, which is slowly taking form as he continues his work until the end when Dante forms his theory completely. Apart from the Divine Comedy which is the main book of this thesis we will also work with his important political treatise De Monarchia, where he gradually explains and defends his opinion. Whole thesis is divided into three key parts according to the evolution of Dante's political ideas; the city, the empire and the papacy. Each part includes brief political and historic context of the medieval Italy and then in each part we will focus on some of the important personalities. We will introduce them in short biographical openings and then with the help of Dante's references we described them, we determined his relation to these personalities and thus we stressed out their political profile and importance. Italo Svevo's novels

This thesis aims to introduce the Italian writer Italo Svevo and his three key novels: Una vita (A Life), Senilità (As a man grows older) and La coscienza di Zeno (Zeno's Conscience). At the beginning I briefly summarize the history of multicultural Trieste, which had considerable influence on the author and which is the setting of the three novels. The bio- bibliographical section will chronologically portray Svevo's personal and professional life and his literary and dramatic works. The connecting point of his works is "inettitudine", or indifference, ineptitude and passivity of the main characters lives. Further, one of Svevo's topics handled repeatedly is the family, relations between its individual members, love and rivalry. The work focuses on Svevo's novels. Finally, I try to compare all three works, to find differences between them and summarize the overall continuity and transformation of Svevo's heroes.
Niccolò Machiavelli and Tommaso Campanella

The aim of this work is to analyse and to confront ideas and views of Niccolò Machiavelli and Tommaso Campanella, who are both very important Italian political philosophers. The works that will be analysed are Machiavelli's political treatise Il Principe (The Prince) and Campanella's utopian treatise La città del sole (The City of the Sun). This work is divided into four chapters. First chapter is a short introduction and is followed by the focal part of the work. In the second chapter is presented Niccolò Machiavelli's life and work as well as the analyse of his views on chosen topics, which are: ideal prince, ethics and religion. In the third chapter is presented Tommaso Campanella's life, work and also analyse of his views on chosen topics. Last chapter has concluding character, confronts Machiavelli's ideas with Campanella's and points out differences and similiarities betwen both authors.
The lyrical subject of the poetry of crepuscolari

A poetic style of crepuscolarism originates in Italy of the beginning of the 20th century. This term is generally used to describe works of so called "poets of twilight". Crepuscolarism marks the beginning of the modern literature in Italy and stands in opposition to the classical literature of 19th century. In comparison to the older poetry, crepuscolari poetry differs, among others, in connection to lyrical subjects - here the relation is clearly negative. The aim of this thesis is to provide both an analysis, and description of Italian crepuscolari poetry, in order to determine the nature of lyrical subjects used. It also compares and contrasts works of the most important poets or Crepuscolarism thier impact on the future generation of Italian poets. After a theoretical introduction, four chapters follow. These are devoted to the most important crepuscolari poets, namely Guido Gozzano, Sergio Corazzini, Marino Moretti, and Aldo Palazzeschi.Here bio-bibliographic information, typical characteristics of their poetry, their understanding of the role of a poet, and relations to lyrical subjects were described in and analysed. In following chapters these results were compared to the development of the lyrical subject in the next generation of Italian poets (Eugenio Montale, Umberto Saba, Giuseppe...
Experimental novels of Aldo Palazzeschi

This thesis is concerned with the experimental prose by Aldo Palazzeschi: Allegoria di Novembre (1908 as Riflessi, 1926), Il Codice di Perelá (1911) and La Piramide (1914). At the beginning of the thesis the author gives an insight into the writers biography, then outlines the difficult situation of the individuality of modern man at the beginning of twentieth century. The thesis is mainly devoted to the analysis of specific Palazzeschi's works. Author has been looking for specific language and stylistic features. Author also observes evolution of the writer's creative process. In the center of her interest there are also the protagonists of the works and the evolution of their characters. In the final chapter the main features of analysed works are summarised.

The subject of this degree paper is the comedies of Angelo Beolco. The introductory part is focused mainly at the life and work of Angelo Beolco. Following this there is an introduction to the comedy genre in 16th century in Italy and the characteristics of erudite comedy, its authors and the change from the erudite comedy to the comedy dell'arte. A further part is given over to an analysis of his comedies La Pastoral (Pastoral), Il Reduce (Returnee) - Primo dialogo: Parlamento de Ruzante che iera vegnú de campo (First dialogue: What said Ruzante when he came back from the battlefield) and Secondo dialogo: Bilora (Second dialogue: Bilora).
Fairy-tale tradition in Italy: Calvino's collection Fiabe italiane

The topic of this thesis are italian fairytales written by Italo Calvino. The main aim of this work was to describe the development of the fairy-tale genre in the area of today's Italy and to analyze the individual fairytales from the Calvino's collection Fiabe italiane. These are analysed from the standpoint of both their content and also their language and stylistic devices.
"Decamerone" by Giovanni Boccaccio

Subject of this bachelor's thesis is Boccaccio's supreme work - Decameron. In the first part, this thesis presents Boccaccio's life within its historical context, his work and aspects, which helped to form his writing personality. In the second part the structure of Decameron and Boccaccio's pre-humanistic thoughts are being discussed in detail. Elsa Morante's Novels

This thesis analyse life and work of the leading figure of italian literature in the twentieth century Elsa Morante. Important elements of her work are defined on the basis of analyses of all her novels. The introduction part shows her personal life and comlete work, which includes also poetry, short stories and fairy tales. Four chapters analysing her four novels are following. The author debuts in 1948 when she published novel Menzogna e sortilegio. Second book L'isola di Artura followed nearly ten years later in 1957. This novel won critical acclaim and favour of readers. Next book La Storia was a bestseller with more then 600 000 sold copies. Critic's opinions differ widely, up to now this novel is receiving opposing reviewes. Morante concluded her writing with the last very pessimistic novel Aracoeli. Author wrote just four novels, in every one of them she used the same methodes and themes.
