The Role of Soft Power in the Foreign and Security Policies of France

The theoretical part is based on the work of Joseph S. Nye and his concept of soft power. The following section deals with evaluation of the position of soft power in foreign and security policy of France. The case study is based on analysis of the situation leading towards the military operation Iraqi Freedom. Emphasis is put on the position of France, which was at that time held by President Jacques Chirac and Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin.

Dealing with the humanitarian crisis in Iraq after Iraqi Freedom in 2003 - case study

This thesis focuses on the activities od international organizations in Iraq in 2003 after the operation Iraqi Freedom. It aims to determine whether the steps taken by various international organizations have led to reducing the impact of humanitarian crises, which began after this operation. The first part defines the humanitarian crisis, its actors and possible solutions. The second part analyzes the causes of the humanitarian crisis in Iraq. In the third part the author focuses on studying how the humanitarian organizations helpped reduce the humanitarian crises.

Comparison of operation Desert Storm 1991 and operation Iraqi Freedom 2003

The bachelor thesis examines the operations Desert Storm 1991 and Iraqi Freedom 2003 and its goal is to compare these from the perspective of both legality and legitimacy. The first part of the thesis presents a brief outline of Iraq's history with emphasis on the latter half of the 20th century, relations between Iraq and the United States of America, as well as the international context and chronology of both these operations. The second chapter discusses the legal regulation of jus ad bellum, its development and current state. The third chapter analyses the legality of the operations; i.e. their conformity with jus ad bellum. The final chapter compares both operations from the perspective of legitimacy, using criteria professed by Gareth Evans and Samuel Huntington respectively.
