The phenomenon of Czechoslovak hitchhiking in the 1960s

The bachelor's thesis deals with the phenomenon of Czechoslovak hitchhiking in the 1960s. It presents it as a contemporary global phenomenon, focusing on its "Czech version". In the work, the author tries to answer questions about what was its character, actors, forms, problems and what conditions enabled its mass development in this period. At the same time, the question of the position of young people as the main actors of hitchhiking and its relationship to the Czechoslovak Youth Union is presented in more detail. Based on the example of an unsuccessful event of organized hitchhiking, the work presents the shortcomings of this organization. The text is divided into eight main chapters. First, the definition of the term hitchhiking is introduced. Subsequently, hitchhiking is set in a contemporary context. The next chapter deals with the topic of 1960s media, which was the main source for the work. The following is a description of the course of hitchhiking and its various forms, which are arranged according to the motivation for this way of traveling. A separate part is also devoted to organized hitchhiking, the causes that led to it, the course and its failed end.
