Annotated translation of the book Patti Smith. Helene Hegemann über Patti Smith, Christoph Schlingensief, Anarchie und Tradition (Verlag Kiepenheuer & Witsch, Köln, 2021)

The focus of this thesis is the translation of the book Patti Smith. Helene Hegemann über Patti Smith, Christof Schlingensief, Anarchie und Tradition from German into Czech. The text was published in 2021 as part of the KiWi Musikbibliothek edition of the German publishing house Kiepenheuer & Witsch, in which artists write with "radical subjectivity" on their favourite musicians. In this text with autobiographical and essayistic elements, its author Helene Hegemann discusses the singer Patti Smith, her work and a personal encounter with her. An additional important theme of the book is experimental theatre with a focus on director Christof Schlingensief. The thesis begins with a reasoning for choosing this book to be translated and an introduction of Helene Hegemann and her work. The next part includes an analysis of the translated text as well as a description of the translation method used, followed by the text of the translation itself. The thesis concludes with a discussion of the problems encountered during the translation process and their solutions.
