Seydlová, Marie ; Hádková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Kotvová, Miroslava (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on public awareness about hearing impairment in the Czech Republic. The main objective is to find more information about this topic. The first theoretical part describes basic theory, which is important for better understanding and orientation in hearing impairements issues. The practical part is dedicated to special education of people with hearing impairment, public attitudes towards people with this disability are also mentioned. This part is also focused on research with anonymous questionnaire, which includes questions about basic terms, knowledge of hearing impairment types, or experiences with meeting these people and how would respondents comunicate, if somebody with this disability asked for help. Questionaire is also focused on attitudes of respondents to hearing impairements and how they protect their own hearing. It implies from the research, that respondents are quite well informed about hearing handicaps, and that they are willing to help people with these disabilities despite their shyness. But even if they know how to protect their own hearing, they do not follow the rules of proper aural hygiene very much.
Hearing disordes by geriatric pacients as a nursing problem
TERBEROVÁ, Eliška
The main purpose of this work is to map the specifics of access and communication in providing nursing care to geriatric patients with hearing impairment. Following this purpose, three research questions were identified: What problems in daily life in geriatric patients are caused by hearing impairment?; What needs do geriatric patients with hearing impairment have in relation to the nursing staff?; What mistakes in geriatric patients with hearing impairment are encountered by nursing staff? The empirical part of the work was processed by methods of qualitative research, which was carried out in the form of semi-structured interview. The whole interview contained a total of 15 questions. Some of them were supplemented by sub-questions. The research sample consisted of 7 informants over 60 years of age suffering from hearing impairment of varying degrees. The interviews were recorded on a mobile phone using the Answering Machine application and subsequently processed into a written form or recorded in writing during the interview. The obtained results were subsequently processed by the open coding method, using the "pencil paper" technique. The results are divided into three categories: adaptation, communication and specific care. In general, it has become clear that informants are relatively reconciled with their hearing impairment. Hearing loss of varying degrees is above all compensated by hearing aids, which makes the most users satisfied. Frequently asked questions on the evaluation of the quality of provided nursing care mainly showed patient satisfaction. Most of the requests were focused on the specifics of communication, in which staff commits occasional errors. Errors and deficiencies may subsequently complicate patient-staff collaboration. The work brings a comprehensive view of the problems of hearing loss in the geriatric age and its impact on the everyday life of all who suffer from it. The results can serve nurses in practice, as well as medical and non-medical students, and anyone who wants to learn more about life with hearing impairment in old age.
Meet the needs communication near clients with dysacousia on ORL
HOLAROVÁ, Erika
The work was elaborated on the topic: Satisfaction of communication needs in patients with hearing disorder at ORL. Hearing disorders are most frequent diseases. Hearing goes impairing from puberty in human. In order that the nurse working at ORL can understand patients with hearing disorders, she must first understand their thinking and experiencing. Communication with such patients is very various and depends on the degree of seriousness of the hearing disorder with which the patients arrive to the hospital. The satisfaction of communication needs is integral part of nursing process. If the nurse conducts a conversation with the patient, she must pay attention not only to what the patient tells her, but she pays attention also to his nonverbal expression because it can indicate more than his verbal expression to the nurse. The nurse always selects suitable form of communication, which contributes to understand the patient. We have elaborated two types of questionnaires, for nurses and for patients. Both types included basic identification questions and further questions were directed so that we could find out whether the communication needs are being satisfied. From the data results obtained from the nurses, we found out that communication with patients with hearing disorders is not satisfied. It is confirmed also by the results of the questionnaires we had handed out to the patients. The hypotheses of our work was: The communication needs is more satisfied to clients with hearing disorders at ORL wards than at ORL outpatients department. This hypotheses is confirmed through the data obtained from the patients and the nurse. The work can be used for education of nurses of the Faculty of health and Social Studies and for improvement of nursing care performed by nurses working at the ORL ward and outpatients department.
