Database Indexing: SP-GiST for PostGIS
Matula, Lukáš ; Fröml, Vojtěch (referee) ; Zendulka, Jaroslav (advisor)
The goal of the master ́s thesis is to study index methods, spatial data type objects in PostgreSQL database systems and to create SP-GiST index by quadtree in the PostGIS. The PostGIS is spatial database, which extends of PostgreSQL. PostGIS adds support for geographic and spatial objects. It is a big benefit. PostGIS has its own data types, methods and GiST index too, but there is SP-GiST index missing, therefore master's thesis was created.
Video Retrieval
Černý, Petr ; Mlích, Jozef (referee) ; Chmelař, Petr (advisor)
This thesis summarizes the information retrieval theory, the relational model basic and focuses on the data indexing in relational database systems. The thesis focuses on multimedia data searching. It includes description of automatic multimedia data content extraction and multimedia data indexing. Practical part discusses design and solution implementation for improving query effectivity for multidimensional vector similarity which describes multimedia data. Thesis final part discusses experiments with this solution.
Peritoneal lavage cytology and biochemistry in cases of upper GI tumours
Hoskovec, David ; Antoš, František (advisor) ; Lischke, Robert (referee) ; Aujeský, René (referee)
Introduction: Intraperitoneal tumor seeding is a common form of recurrence after surgery for GI tumours. Early diagnosis and treatment may influence the course of disease. Hypothesis and objectives of the work The finding of free tumor cells and / or elevation of tumor markers in peritoneal fluid predicts intraperitoneal tumor recurrence. The results of these tests can be used to indicate HIPEC. Aim of this work is to determine the sensitivity and specificity of cytology and tumor markers levels and importance of these tests for early diagnosis and prognosis of recurrence. Another objective was to confirm the applicability of RT PCR for identification of free tumor cells. Patients and methods . Materials are sourced both during initial surgery (220 patients) and by the dispensary controls (25 patients). The peritoneal fluid was examined cytologically and biochemically too. 50 samples was exemined by RT PCR. Results Elevation of tumor markers or finding of free intraperitoneal tumor cells predicts recurrence. The prognosis of these patients corresponds to stage IV TNM classification, regardless of other parameters TNM. Low sensitivity of these tests (34% for cytology, 53% for tumor markers) does not allow its use as an indicator of HIPEC. Due to degradation of RNA we did not confirm the value of RT...

Development of SQL/XML Functionality in PostgreSQL Database
Pospíšil, Tomáš ; Burget, Radek (referee) ; Chmelař, Petr (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to propose a way to implement the missing XML functionality for the database system PostgreSQL. The second chapter discusses the theoretical paradigm with an XML-related technologies like Xpath or XQuery. The third chapter discusses the ISO SQL standards and describes the current level of implementation of native XML databases, versus traditional relational databases. The last part focuses on different approaches and it proposes a solution to implement the XML API to PostgreSQL, which validates XML documents against XSD, DTD and RelaxNG schemes. Next point is focused on XML indexing techniques and proposal of new index based on GiST.
