KYMLOVÁ, Petra
This Bachelor´s work deals with the topic of providing animal assisted therapy in the hospital from the view of the patients. It surveys providing of zootherapy in the hospitals situated in South Bohemian Region and its benefits for the patients. The theoretical part describes zootherapy and basic terminology. It shows the history of therapeutical use of animals, distribution by animal species, methods and forms used in zootherapy, possibility of using zootherapy and its benefits for clients. The last chapter focuses on the specifics of providing zootherapy in a hospital. The aim of the practical part was to chart the situation of zootherapy as a supporting treatment of psychosocial health from the view of patients hospitalized in the inpatient ward. Two major research questions were posed to identify these goals. A qualitative research strategy has been used for research, using a polling method and a semistructured interview technique. Two research groups were established. First group consisted of patients who were long-term hospitalized in hospitals of South Bohemian Region, who participated on zootherapy provided in hospital at least once. Second team consisted of hospital personnel, who were helping with providing zootherapy. The results were processed using the method of open coding and they confirmed that zootherapy is welcomed by the patients and is beneficial for them especially by providing distraction, mood improvement, allows social contact and is a motivational element. The research also showed that options of zootherapeutical teams can be limited (by time, financially, or by capacity) under the current conditions in the Czech Republic. That´s why all the potential is not utilized. This work can be used by the public interested in the topic of zootherapy, or can also be used by the zootherapists, who are interested in providing zootehrapy in hospitals, or if they would like to learn about zootherapy from the view of the patients.

Zoo therapists who were approached for research do not realize any limits on hygiene measures, and that is exactly in 9 out of 11 cases. All 9 stated that they adhere to basic hygiene rules, sufficient hand washing, bringing in own food and bowle for the animals. 1 of the informants mentioned restrictions on physical contact with people, who suffer from a contagious disease. Only in 1 answer stated that hygienic measures apply to kitchens or dining rooms where animals do not come and do not have access.
