Fairytale Drama of J. K. Tyl and J. Drda

The thesis focuses on analysis of fairytale drama genre in the work of Josef Kajetán Tyl and Jan Drda. Its goal is to describe common and different approaches of these authors, which are derived on the basis of selected key motives (motive of love, erotic motive, motive of labour and money, folklore motive), fairytale style, character types, the imprint of time, the role of music and some other components. The thesis builds on analysis and comparison of seven original texts - on Tyl's Strakonický dudák (1847), Tvrdohlavá žena (1849), Jiříkovo vidění (1849), Čert na zemi (1850), Lesní panna (1850) and on Drda's Hrátky s čertem (1945) and Dalskabáty (1959). Another aim of this thesis is to confirm or refute the hypothesis that Jan Drda conceived his two fairytale plays in the spirit of the Tyl tradition. Due to the nature of the thesis there are, in addition to professional literature, widely used sources such as theater programs, critics and reviews from the second half of the 20th century.
