Comparative analysis of island regions of north European monarchies

The thesis deals with island territories of the Danish Kingdom and the United Kingdom, specifically Faroe Islands, Isle of Man and marginally Shetland, Orkney and Outer Hebrides. Faroe Islands and Isle of Man share special relations with their mainland countries, which guarantee them high level of autonomy and their own political institutions, parliaments originating in the age of Vikings. These territories also differ from their mainland countries in other aspects, for example history, culture, language, etc. Even though these territories have their own functioning political systems and gradually rising autonomy, they are neglected by the academia, especially in the Czech Republic. Main purpose of this thesis is to explore these systems, their relations between them and their mainland countries and to outline their possible future. Thesis itself is divided into several parts. The first part is the introduction, which familiarizes reader with the topic. The second part is a chapter about the Faroe Islands and their political system. Next part is a chapter about the Isle of Man. After Isle of Man, there is a short chapter dedicated to the Shetland, Orkney and Outer Hebrides.
