Indoorové pěstitelské systémy z pohledu Life Cycle Assessment
PROCHÁZKA, Karel
The aim of this work was to quantify the environmental impacts of growing vegetables in an indoor system using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method. The work included the experiment itself and data collection, as well as creating a literature review, defining the goals and scope of the assessment according to ISO 14040 and 14044 standards, data inventory, impact evaluation, and data interpretation with the aim of detecting the main sources of environmental burden and proposing measures for their reduction. A model of hydroponic cultivation of salad cucumber was presented as part of a project at the University of South Bohemia, where all processes from the acquisition of raw materials to production, including the consumption of water, materials, energy, and waste production, were taken into account. Hypotheses assumed that the greatest impacts would be associated with energy consumption and that the most affected categories would be toxicity and water consumption. The results of the study point to a significant environmental impact associated with energy inputs. Electrical energy, its production and consumption, represents up to 92 % of the total environmental load within the model.
