Projects aimed on enhancing active citizenship among primary school pupils

This diploma discusses projects to enhance active citizenship among primary school pupils. The work seeks to describe the importance of education for active citizenship in primary schools, to map projects dedicated to deepening knowledge regarding the role of an active citizen, and at the same time to inspire interested teachers to incorporate this issue into their lessons. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part defines the concepts of citizenship and active citizenship, the goals of education for active citizenship, and its inclusion in the curriculum, as well as a description of two different projects devoted to this issue. The empirical part tries to answer several questions regarding the projects. First, it answers why it is essential to include education for active citizenship as early as the 1st grade of primary school. It further discusses the goals and risks of this inclusion. Lastly, the empirical part focuses on new and existing programs and initiatives that deepen the development of education for active citizenship among children in the 1st grade of primary school. Národní divadlo ve výuce výchovy k občanství na II. stupni základní školy

This thesis is focused on education concerning the National Theatre in the subject Education for Citizenship and also finding out the attitudes of the primary school second grade students towards the National Theatre the symbol of the Czech national identity and cultural heritage. The first part generally describes curriculum documents at the national and academic level with additional analysis of specific academic educational documents of chosen primary schools in relation to the chosen topic. The second part zooms in on the history, the symbolic meaning and the present organizational structure of the National Theatre. The third part summarizes the results of the questionnaire which was obtained from chosen primary schools. The summary also includes evaluation of interviews with some respondents.

Causes of low civic and political participation of children and youth in the CR

This thesis deals with the topic of low civic and political participation of children and youth in the Czech Republic. Participatory democracy theory and theory of civil society are used as starting values. The work deals mainly with organized civic and political participation of children and youth. It is shown, based on several international studies, that in comparison with other states the civic and political participation of Czech children and youth is of the significantly lower level. Area of youth participation falls within the national policy on youth and therefore this work describes basic public-policy documents that are related to the topic of participation of children and youth. In the frame of this work, analysis of the actors involved in the czech youth policy-making, was done. Possible ways of civic and political participation of children and young people, such as children and youth associations, school parliaments, political parties, academic senates, etc, are discussed as well The work identified the main causes of low civic and political participation of children and youth and also proposed specific measures which can help to increase the level of civic and political participation of children and youth in the Czech Republic.

Education for Citizenship and Environmental Education in the Secondary and High School

This diploma thesis deals with the environmental education of young people and it highlights its importance for the transfer towards the sustainable society. It emphasizes the need to get into the core of the problem, which is the emotional alienation of present-day people from the nature and environment. In the theoretical part it proves the existence of many various attitudes towards the world and the possibility of environmental education to bring students to those less self-centred and more considerate. It then presents the basis of environmental education, its development and mainly its trends reflecting today's need to focus on environmental sensitivity and personal responsibility of each individual. It shows that both areas are possible to cultivate in lessons of civics and social sciences, which provide significant space for the integration of environmental education. These subjects stress the need to educate students in the way which would help them to acquire skills of both responsible citizens of the society and considerate inhabitants of this beautiful planet. Education for democratic citizenship at secondary school

The diploma thesis deals with one of the cross-cutting issues in RVP ZV. It is devoted to the education which results in active citizenship in a democracy. A theoretical part is related to the following topics: education for citizenship, curriculum reform, core competencies, education for democratic citizenship and civics textbooks. A practical part contains a unique survey about the education for democratic citizenship at secondary school and worksheet drafts, which lead to anticipated results in such education.
