Triangular-notch thin-plate weir located at the end of the pipe
Bečička, Filip ; Žoužela, Michal (referee) ; Zachoval, Zbyněk (advisor)
The bachelor thesis dealt with the determination of the discharge coefficient of a thin-plate weir with a triangular notch located at the end of a circular pipe with zero bottom slope. Measurements were used for its determination. Measurements were taken for five different angles of the triangular notch and for two pipe diameters. The discharge coefficient was calculated in two ways based on Bernoulli's equation. The discharge coefficient was plotted graphically against the different quantities to determine their suitability for generalisation. A graphical representation has also been made for the ratio expressing the relative filling of the pipe. Based on the graphical representations and the complexity of the calculation, a recommendation for the calculation was given.

Executed model research, which deals with determination of plan situating influence on discharging capacity plan deflected and plan radius weirs in comparison to normal weir, is evaluated in another part of this work. The research is also dealing with influence of aeration of the space under down surface of free jet and influence of downstream water level on discharging capacity. This work compares the results of executed research with available knowledge of other authors, who have dealt with determination of discharging capacity on weirs with different plan situating.
Influence of the wall roughness on discharge coefficient of orifice
Jinek, Josef ; Golík,, Pavel (referee) ; Zachoval, Zbyněk (advisor)
This thesis deals with the influence of the wall roughness on discharge coefficient of sharp-edged circular bottom orifice. It supposed to verify, summarize and extend knowledge of orifice discharge. Author of this thesis determine a discharge coefficient by measurement. Values of discharge coefficient were measured for roughness of the wall represented by different diameters of grains and these values were compared with available values published in specialized bibliography by different scientists. At the thesis end was made a summary evaluation.
Influence of plan radius on discharging capacity of weir
Lukášek, Petr ; Haluza,, Miloslav (referee) ; Šulc, Jan (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on plan radius weirs. The part of this work is also summary of the information about weirs, principally about plan radius weirs. Executed model research, dealing with determination of influence of plan radius on discharging capacity of these weirs in comparison to straight weir, is evaluated in another part of this work. The research is also dealing with the effect of design of a spillway channel on capacity of the weir. This work compares the results of executed research with results of other authors, who are dealing with plan radius morning glory spillway.
Influence of inflow orientation on overflow characteristics over broad-crest
Major, Jakub ; Dušička,, Peter (referee) ; Fošumpaur, Pavel (referee) ; Zachoval, Zbyněk (advisor)
Weirs belong to the basic water structures mainly creating vertical contraction of stream against the flumes, which creating mainly horizontal contraction of stream. In the case of the flow over weir usually occurs change from subcritical flow over critical with critical depth to supercritical flow, therefore overflow. Weirs with rectangular control section are described rectangular longitudinal and transverse profile and horizontal crest. Can be distinguish three basic inflow directions to weir. The first is frontal inflow, which is the most frequent in practice. The second is lateral inflow used in distribution and consumption objects. The third is lower inflow used as laboratory weirs, weirs with deeply submerged wall, etc. In terms of knowledge of influence listed directions of inflows, currently are not sufficiently researched the cases of frontal inflow with side contraction and lower inflow on all types of weirs. Due to extent of the issue, labour is focused only on frontal inflow over broad-crested weir with side contraction and lower inflow over broad-crested weir without side contraction. The goal of the labour was to summarize the current knowledge of the flow over broad-crested weir with side contraction and lower inflow over broad-crested weir without side contraction, describe the character of the flow at the overflow and on the basis of it determine recommendations for measurement and calculation of discharge. Further to define unexplored area, specify methods of solution and verify own measurements. The research dealt with application and optimal numerical model setting for to solve the problem.
Experimental verification of flood hose bag functionality
Valdová, Klára ; Dráb, Aleš (referee) ; Žoužela, Michal (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with functionality verification of one type of flood protection system. It is a large-volume hose bag Protex-K with the nominal diameter of 680 mm, which is supplied by the company KOEXPO OSTRAVA, joint stock company. The bag is made of polyethylene fabric and filled with cement and fly ash mixture, which is fed into the bag by means of screw pumps. The first part of the work is focused on the classification of flood barriers and their laboratory tests. The bag with the nominal diameter of 680 mm underwent the stability test, its discharge coefficient and specific leakage were determined. The volumic mass of the cement-flyash mixture was determined both in the dry and in the saturated condition. All these tests were performed in the laboratory of Water Management Research of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Brno University of Technology. The work also includes the data obtained by measuring, processed and presented in the tabular and graphical form.
Experimental verification of flood kidney three bag functionality
Požárová, Miroslava ; Dráb, Aleš (referee) ; Žoužela, Michal (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the system of large-volume flood bags Protex - K manufactured by the company KOEXPRO OSTRAVA, joint stock company. The bags consist of polyethylene fabric filled with cement and fly ash mixture. The system enables creation of many shape modifications. One of them is the so-called triplet formed from three hose bags with the nominal diameter of 300 mm. The goal of the work was to verify functionality of this bag in one of the hydraulic troughs in the Laboratory of Water Management Research of Department of Water Structures of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology. To assess the functionality, the bag stability was tested with various water levels, and discharge coefficient and specific leakage per one standard meter of the bag was determined. The resulting discharge coefficient was compared with discharge coefficients of similarly shaped constructions. The work includes comparison of the flood bags with commonly used bags. Furthermore, the data obtained by measuring and processed in the tabular and graphical form are presented in the work.
Determination of the capacity charakteristics of two-level fixed spillway
Chvátal, Petr ; Haluza,, Miloslav (referee) ; Šulc, Jan (advisor)
The Bachelor's thesis is conceived as a summary of existing information about two or more level fixed spillways of hydraulic structures and evaluates the capacity characteristics of individual variants. Its aim is primarily the formation and processing of these characteristics in the form of usable results, not only for design and research purposes, but also for numerical modelling.
Influence of the weir width on a discharge coefficient of the broad crested weir
Kašpar, Tomáš ; Veselý, Jaroslav (referee) ; Zachoval, Zbyněk (advisor)
This bachelor’s thesis focuses on the influence of the weir width on a discharge coefficient of the broad-crested weir. The relation between discharge coefficients and the relative width of the weir was defined, on the basis of measuring the level of the water surface in front of the weir, given various discharges and various width of the weir. These data were compared to the measurement results found in the professional literature.
Numerical Modelling of Flow over Spillway in Small Dams
Vaněk, Jakub ; Roth, Tomáš (referee) ; Jandora, Jan (advisor)
The master´s thesis deals with the numerical modeling of flow in the emergency spillways of small dams. It is solved the flow rate capacity of a weir and of spillway called „duckbill-type“. Sharp crested weirs and long crested weirs are modeled using numerical simulations in ANSYS. Hydraulically complex spillway called „duckbill-type“ was modeled in the Flow-3D. The results of the discharge coefficients are compared with data in the hydraulic literature.
