The endeavour of Czech countrymen living in Polish Zelów to retain Czech language

The thesis focuses on the effort to preserve Czech language among the Czech inhabitants of a Polish town of Zelow. The initial part of the paper deals with the methodology of my field research. The next part focuses on the main characteristics of the Czech countrymen in Zelow, especially their history, identity, religion and relations with the Polish majority. The main part of the thesis deals with the field research. Its aim is to ascertain the importance of Czech language for the Czech countrymen in Zelow and to explore the question whether this community can retain its distinctive nature despite the already advanced assimilation into the majority
