Ascension of the Bernadotte Family to the Swedish Throne
Pajerová, Anna ; Županič, Jan (advisor) ; Valkoun, Jaroslav (referee)
The Bachelor thesis is primary focused on the accession of Bernadottes to the Swedish throne, but the concrete election of Jean Baptiste Bernadotte in the Örebro Diet was preceded by many events, which more or less influenced the results of the election of the Swedish Crown prince, e.g. Swedish Revolution in 1809, Russian-Swedish War, the loss of Finland, French attack of Swedish Pomerania, Bernadotte's administration of Hanseatic towns, the Death of the first Crown Prince Christian August, Fournier's Campaign, etc. In the context of both Swedish and European policy this thesis tries to pinpoint the important events, which influenced the Diet in Örebro the most, and explain, how and why it was exactly the French Marshal, who was elected as a new Swedish Crown Prince. The aim of the thesis is also the analysis of how Bernadotte successfully consolidated his new position and established the dynasty, which rules the Swedish Kingdom until the present day.
