Šídlová, Marcela ; Králíková, Eva (advisor) ; Syrová, Hana (referee)
Effect of smoking on lactation and breast feeding Abstract The bachelor 's thesis deals with the topic of mothers' smoking during breast feeding period and its effect on lactation, breast feeding and infant health. The thesis is both theoretical and practical. The aim of the theoretical part is to summarize knowledges concerning breast feeding and its benefits, smoking and its harmfulness, to connect these two topics and point at risks coming out when mother smokes during breast feeding period. Marginally it touches the topic of smoking during pregnancy. The practical part deals with mothers smokers' awareness about possible effects of smoking on breast feeding and infant's health and investigates if smoking mothers who participated on the qualitative research see some effects of smoking on breast feeding and their child. It also researches their emotions after smoking a cigarette in pregnancy and after delivery, and compares these two key periods. It determines how long smoking mothers breast feed and if they put in context too early cession of breast feeding with smoking. The main acquired fact is that mothers smokers perceive bigger risks of smoking on their child in pregnancy than in breast feeding period. The women gained the information usualy at their gynecologist but they haven't been informed about...
Antenatal preparation in České Budějovice region
ŠTĚCHOVÁ, Gabriela
This bachelor thesis deals with the importance of antenatal preparation and the use of information obtained at these courses. The first aim of the work was to map the knowledge of women from antenatal preparation and their use. The second goal was to find out the opinions of midwifes on the usefulness of antenatal preparation. The bachelor thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part contains basic information about antenatal preparation in general. Furthermore, the theoretical part is divided into topics of theoretical and practical nature, with which women can meet in the courses of antenatal preparation. Topics as pregnancy, lifestyle in pregnancy, prenatal care, selection of maternity hospital, birth plan, when to go to maternity hospital and what to bring there, escort to childbirth, birth process itself, first treatment of newborn and postpartum period are described there. Practical topics include for example breathing and pushing techniques during childbirth, puerperium exercises, breastfeeding and newborn care. The practical part of the thesis was carried out by means of qualitative research, in the form of semi-structured interviews. The research group consisted of 10 women who attended a course of antenatal preparation in the České Budějovice region and 7 midwives working at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department at České Budějovice Hospital, a.s. The interviews with the respondents were recorded on dictaphone with their consent, then literally rewritten and analyzed. In order to evaluate the data with women who have completed pre-natal courses, 6 categories that include also10 sub-categories were set. Four categories were created for data evaluation with midwives. Based on the above-mentioned goals, three research questions were identified for the research part. The first research question explored what the knowledge of women from antenatal preparation is. Research has shown that most informants were satisfied with the amount of information they received on the course. One of the respondents stated that instead of theoretical information on the course, she would rather appreciate the practical knowledge. On the other hand, another respondent mentioned that there was a lot of information and a small amount of time to obtain the information. The second research question dealt with the use of information obtained at pre-natal courses. Research has shown that most respondents used the correct breathing technique that they have learned in courses, during their delivery. The interviews also revealed that the respondents used other information gathered on the course, such as when to go to maternity hospital, what to pack to the maternity ward, how to distinguish pregnancy cramps from the contractions or the pushing technique. The third research question dealt with the opinions of midwives on antenatal preparation courses. All midwives interviewed have a positive attitude to prenatal preparation courses. But they stated that there is no significant difference between the woman who attended the course and the woman who did not attend any course. However, midwives are convinced that it is certainly worthwhile to attend antenatal courses, especially for primiparas. The knowledge acquired during processing of this bachelor thesis can help midwives who lead antenatal preparation courses, for example to improve their leadership. The output of the bachelor thesis is a leaflet in which there is a comprehensive list of prenatal courses, which are offered in České Budějovice and a more detailed description of individual courses.
Protein intake in nurselings
KYNCL, Tomáš
The aim of bachelory called "The intake of proteins at infant" was to chart an intake of proteins at infant's diet. There are two research questions: What is the difference between breast-feeded infants and infant's feeded by formulas and infants feeded by baby foods focused on the intake of proteins? What is the intake of proteins at infants feeded by baby foods according to nutrition's recommendecions. Bachelory thesis is separeted to theoretical part, which is focused to defined basic concepts like proteins and infants. Further it deals with infant's nutrition, provided by breast-feeding or infant's nutrition formula and baby foods. Practical part was done by applying qualitativ research, there is calculation of 3 days of infant's diet. The evaluation of data was done in programm Nutriservis Proffesional and I used labels from the producers of infant's formulas as well. There are 12 infants involved in the research separeted in 3 groups based on infant's age. The groups are defined as: 0-4 months, 4-8 months, 8-12 months. In each groups there are 4 infants. The results are done using the formo of calculated tabs. In all the groups there is reference value of proteins set up to 10 g a day. (Referenční hodnoty pro příjem živin, 2011). The conclusion says that breast-feeded children at the groups 0-4 months and 4-8 months are closer to this reference value than children feeded by infant's nutrition formula. At the group 8-12 months it is very individuall. There are 2 infants close to the reference value, one of them has the income significantely lower and the second one higher for a change. Out of those results it is possible to say, that for optimal income of proteins it is more convinient breastst-feeding than infant's nutrition formulas.

Metabolic specifics of women with a positive history of gestational diabetes
Jarošová, Adéla ; Vejražková, Daniela (advisor) ; Krejčí, Hana (referee)
Gestational diabetes (GDM) is a disorder of glucose metabolism arising for the first time in pregnancy and spontaneously receding after birth. The issue of GDM is very topical since, according to the latest update of diagnostic criteria, up to 17% of pregnant women is threatened by this disorder. The incidence of GDM correlates with the increasing prevalence of overweight/obesity and metabolic syndrome. It is proved that women who have had gestational diabetes have an enormously increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2T). The risk accosiated with a gestational diabetes pregnancy stretches beyond the host, and can affect the fetus both directly (e. g. macrosomia development), and epigenetically (increases susceptibility to obesity, DM2T development or cardiovascular disease). Significant influence on the development of GDM (or DM2T) is a body composition that is directly related to lifestyle (nutritional intake and physical activity) and genetic role i salso involved. Early intervention may help delay the risk of developing DM2T and other metabolic complications. In this diploma thesis we monitored metabolic profiles of glucose and lipids and body composition based on anthropometric examination and questionnaires of nutritional income and physical activity. For the complex...

Formula in infancy - composition, indication
BOČKOVÁ, Jaroslava
Formula is an artificial milk nutrition which is possible to use if the child is not breast-fed and in this case it can substitute the breast milk. It is important to realize that breast milk is still the "gold standard" of infant nutrition and the formula is "merely" substitute and that means breast milk cannot be adequately replace. My bachelor thesis is on the topic of Formula in infancy - the composition and indications. Therefore I focused not only on the formula itself, but also on the natural nutrition of infants as breast milk. I divided the theoretical part of the thesis into three main areas - breastfeeding, daily nutritional regime and the formula in infancy. I dealt with the composition of artificial milk formulas in my research. I compared breastfeeding with formulas from the perspective of mothers and I took an interest in reasons for the use of the artificial milk formulas and in brands which were tested by respondents. I also tried to find out if the mothers were enough informed about infant feeding. I used two methods of qualitative research - a content analysis and technique of semi-structured interviews. I had set four goals: The first was to compare formulas for infants on the Czech market, the second was to compare satisfaction of breastfeeding and non breastfeeding mothers with theinfant feeding method. The third was to identify the reasons for the use of formulas and find out which formulas women use. The fourth was to make a discovery if women are informed about the ways and possibilities of the infant feeding. Meanwhile I was dealing with research question number one, specifically if the composition of the individual formulas meets the requirements of Directive 2006/141/EC of the EU Commission I found that not all values are identical to legislation. At least it should be explored if the ingredients which are not equivalent to the approved amount could be harmful to child's health. I couldn?t answer the second question on the basis of composition of the artificial milk nutrition. So I assessed the quality of the offered range of brands on the Czech market from the theoretical part. Nutrilon has become the best brand according to this comparison. The question number three was if the women are more satisfied with breastfeeding or with the use of artificial milk formulas. I was comparing the experiences of breastfeeding and non breastfeeding mothers using the infant nutrition and I found out that nursing mothers are happier, despite the difficulties which accompany the mother during lactation. Also I found out that the reasons for the use of formulas were different in the group of respondents, as well as individual brands of the infant milks. Any mother has never tried alternative soy, goat or sheep milk. They followed the expert's advice and had never thought about these alternatives. I can agree with that and I don?t think this milk could be appropriate infant feeding. The last research question was focused on the respondent's knowledge of infant feeding. All respondents got education from the medical staff of the hospital, but some of them weren?t satisfied with the quality. Some mothers met with a lack of information at the pharmacist and general practice. It is important that the management of the device should lay stress on the proper education because quality child care is based on high-quality information. The results of my bachelor thesis should be like a subject to further detailed investigation and documentation which highlights the need of improvement of the quality information from experts.
Expectations of mothers hospitalized at childbed ward, in newborn-care area
KÁLALOVÁ, Andrea
Bachelor{\crq}s thesis entitled ``Expectations of mothers hospitalized in the maternity ward in the field of newborn care{\crqq} has a research nature. The work is divided into two parts {--} a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical part has seven main chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the psychomotor development of the newborn. The second chapter is devoted to newborn care in the labour ward. The third and fourth chapters are devoted to nursing care in the newborn ward and to the needs of a newborn. The fifth and sixth chapters are devoted to breastfeeding and formula milk. The last chapter is devoted to discharge and care at home. The practical part is devoted to research. The aim of the work was to map out expectations of mothers hospitalized in the maternity ward in the field of newborn care and to find out the level of satisfaction with the nursing care of the newborn among mothers after childbirth. In order to prove or reject the hypotheses, I used a questionnaire with 16 questions. 115 questionnaires were handed out, 105 were returned. The rate of return was 91%. The results were translated in to graphs. The sample for the questionnaire research consisted of mothers on the third day after childbirth hospitalized under the rooming-in system; there were 100 mothers in the end sample. In the first hypothesis I presumed that mothers expect to gain basic information {--}especially practical - on providing basic needs in the care of the newborn. On the basis of processing the data obtained it was found that mothers prefer individual theoretical discussions with practical examples. The first hypothesis was therefore rejected. In the second hypothesis I presumed that mothers are satisfied with the provided nursing care of the newborn. The second hypothesis was proven; mothers are satisfied with nursing care provided. I would like to inform the nurses in the newborn ward about the results of my research.
Nursing care and nourishment of premature baby
LONGÍNOVÁ, Ilona
NURSING CARE AND NOURISHMENT OF PREMATURE BABY A newborn baby isn´t a little adult, a newborn baby is basically a defenceless creature demanding a very complex care that aims at creating secure conditions for its life. It requires love, tenderness and a lot of devotion for the whole period of 24 hours. The bachelor´ s dissertation paper is dealing with the subject `` Nursing care and nourishment of a premature baby{\crqq} In the theory section the difference between a physiological and high risk newborn baby, the principles of care on the intermediary ward, the nourishment problems and the favourable consequences of breast feeding and breast milk not only on these children are described. Some of the aspects of the care are pointed out aiming at satisfying the basic needs of a baby. Dissertation objective: The paper itself is engaged in finding out something about how well mothers of high risk newborn babies, who are hospitalized on intermediary wards in Jindřichův Hradec and České Budějovice, are informed on a suitable care and nourishment procedures in their children. It should find out how far they have gone with their knowledge of the way their children should be taken care of before they leave the hospital. It is supposed to highlight the drawbacks of the staff , to remove these drawbacks and thus to improve the quality of care. Hypotheses: Two positive hypotheses were formulated referring directly to the particulars goals. 1/ The mothers who are hospitalized on the intermediary wards for newborn babies in Jindřichův Hradec and České Budějovice are aware of the necessity of properly nourishing the child. 2/ The mothers who are hospitalized on the intermediary wards for newborn babies in Jindřichův Hradec and České Budějovice are sufficiently informed about the proper care leading to meeting the needs of their children. Data Collecting: The research mentioned above was carried out on the intermediary wards in Jindřichův Hradec and České Budějovice. A questionnaire was composed to collect the relevant data. There were 22 questionnaires handed out in each ward and the research group was set up including 37 mothers of the hospitalized children. The questions included in the questionnaire referred predominantly to how well the mothers are informed about the child´s care and nourishing problems and they were supplemented with some identification. The gained information was properly processed and evaluated. The results were put in graphs. To get a more distinct picture of the results a pie chart was selected. The research results are assessed in the discussion and confronted with the hypotheses. Conclusions: Both the nourishing care and the nourishment of a premature baby are a subject involving a lot of medical, psychological and social problems. A maternity ward nurse plays a very important and definite role in the care of a premature baby. Supported by her profesonal abilities she is able to initiate such a method of work that reacts immediately to the needs of a child in a positive way. The educational contact with the child´s parents is eqally important and plays a very precise role. The fact how well mothers are informed is influenced by their age, by how much they are interested in getting information and its resources and how much they are willing to be educated by the medical staff on the intermediary wards in Jindřichův Hradec and České Budějovice where they are hospitalized with their children. The research results are very good.
