Bookstart - analysis of a project to support children's reading in Great Britain

The bachelor thesis deals with the historical development and current activities of the Bookstart project in the countries of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The introductory theoretical part of the thesis describes the differences in the historical and contemporary development of Bookstart in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. It also describes the legislation and organizations there that are dedicated to the development of literacy. In the practical part are presented the method of funding, government support, adaptation to societal needs and the variation in support materials and age groups for different Bookstart packages. A description of the activities and services offered by the project in each country is also included. The thesis is based on a literature search and analysis of available sources.
