Materials of Tank Armour

This bachelor’s thesis named „Materials of Tank Armour“ deals at first with anti-tank ammunition and its distribution, followed by a brief description of some tanks constructed in Great Britain, Germany and Russia and their impact on development of tank technology. In the next part the thesis describes armour, basic principles of its function and division of armours according to its purpose and chemical composition. In conclusion, particular examples of chemical composition of some armour materials are introduced.

Material Armox, made by SSAB company, is most common brand of armour materials. However, there are other companies and brands which are achieving great technological and mechanical attributes. Objectives of this thesis are comparison of materials by technological, mechanical and economical point of view, considering and suggesting possibilities of Armox substitution. Sources of information for this bachelor thesis were manufacturers datasheets, consultations with Tatra Defence Vehicle, Vojenský výzkumný ústav and with providers of these materials. For each hardness class were found suitable materials. These materials can be, after testing, good substitution.

Supervisor: doc. Jiří Musil Submission date: 2014 The aim of this thesis is to map the way of manufacturing of roman armour, its appearance and primarily decoration and its motifs. It will contain body armour, helmets, greaves, shields and belts. In terms of time its main aim is period of principate in terms of place, it will concentrate on all empire and beyond, wherever the foot of roman soldier stood. Roman army was the strongest and most efficient war machine of the world for almost five hundred years and its equipment reflected that. Roman equipment could bear from small and simple motifs to elaborate and stunning demonstration of craftsmanship. Although the roman equipment was decorated in countless ways, some of them were more favoured than others and the favoured ones are connected with roman army, its gods or protection against bad luck.
