The Journal Pravo lidu 1945-1948:Hopes,Aims and Tattered Ideals
Plívová, Viktorie ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The daily Právo lidu (Peoples' Rights), a paper of the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), started to be published 12 of May 1945, immediately after a forced break during the Second World War. However, its renewed edition did not last much longer than mere three years. After the Social Democratic Party merged with the Communist Party the newspaper was closed, or more precisely "diverted" under the auspices of Rudé právo (Red right), the central organ of the Communist Party. My aim in writing this thesis is a study of this period as such, its presentation on the pages of Právo lidu, or a presentation of some major historical events on the pages of the diary and the form of the paper itself. The work is therefore divided into two main parts. The first is a theoretical introduction describing pivotal moments in the development of post-war Czechoslovakia, where I am focusing on the description of the aspects that shaped the period, formed the internal political situation and directed the former Czechoslovakia into the Soviet Union's sphere of influence. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the very analysis of the diary in the years 1945 - 1948, its form, its way of distributing the information and describing certain political moments, as well as the anchorage of the daily in party structures. A...

Vaňous, Jaroslav ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Houda, Přemysl (referee)
The three years lasting postwar period in Czechoslovak history, sometimes denoted as the "Third Republic", still deserves attention of the historical research in the Czech Republic. The 1947 autumn political crisis in Slovakia is undoubtly one of the most important issues of that historical period. The aim of this thesis is to point out the sources, the process and consequences of this political crisis that is nowadays recognized as a "litmus paper" of the following "coup d'etat". First parts of the thesis analyse the collapse of the nondemocratic regime of the Slovak Republic as well as the framework of the political system of Czechoslovakia and its main features. The following part deals with circumstances of the general elections that took place in May 1946, elections, that resulted in a quite unexpected win of the Democratic Party in the Slovak part of Czechoslovakia. The political situation in Czechoslovakia deteriorated, as the year 1947 continued. It developed into a deep political crisis in autumn, preceded by a campaign against the alleged subversive complot against the state authority. The complot and the following crisis form the main theme of the thesis. These occasions deserve maximal attention because they explicitly show that the decisive politics was dominated by the bloc...

Macík, Jan ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Aplt, Daniel (referee)
The bachelor thesis Struggle between Slovak Democratic Party and Communist Party of Slovakia after the 1946 elections and its image in contemporary media deals with the situation both on political and medial scene of Czechoslovakia during the period of two post-war years. It follows up characteristics of the changes in the political structure of Czechoslovakia, which were the result of the recently concluded World War II. Together with changes in the political scene also describes changes that took place in the area of the media industry. As a demonstration of this fact it shows the mode of covering of particular periodicals of both sides of the conflict. It's trying to explain how were the actual political events presented by periodicals and what was the method of assaulting on political competitors. The crucial part of this work deals with the content analysis of periodicals of both sides of the conflict and it concerns its results. It uses comparative analysis of two dailies and two weeklies and shows the ways of reporting on actual political events and the differences between Communist (daily Rudé právo, weekly Tvorba) and Democratic (daily Čas, weekly Demokratický týždenník) medias. The conclusion of this work contains the summary of analysis results, its interpretation and setting it in the...
