Foreign art exhibitions in Prague 1945 -1953

The thesis will focus on the foreign exhibitions in Prague at prague associations and art galleries betwen yers 1945 - 1953. The heading of every one of chronologicaly sorted chapters will contain a brief insight into the political and cultural situation of Czechoslovakia, which should help the reader to grasp the whole context. The theoretical articles from relevant period will illustrate the shift from "formalism" to socialistic realism as well as types of exhibitions, their historical context and feedback they got from the czechoslovakian artistic community.
Department of Film of the Ministry of Information 1945 - 1953

Diploma thesis "Film Department of the Ministry of Information 1945 - 1953" deals with the cultural policy in Czechoslovakia after the Second World War. The introductory chapter focuses on evolution of the negotiations on the post-war organization in the restored Czechoslovakia. In this chapter was mentioned historical context with a focus on foreign and domestic resistance movement. A significant part of the diploma thesis is devoted to the constitution and development of the Ministry of Information and its influence on the culture policy of the state, especially to the activities of the Film Department which became one of the most important department of the Ministry of Information after the nationalization of the film industry in the summer of 1945. The Communist Party of Czechoslovakia used the department and cinematography for spreading communist ideology in society. In connection with historical context, the role of the Culture and Promotion Department of the Central Comitee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the issue of the import and distribution of foreign films were analyzed. Cultural Policy of the United States and the USSR after World War II.

After the Second World War the United States and the Soviet Union started off with almost opposite models of cultural policy, eight years later in the midst of Cold War their cultural policies were as close as they ever would get. Cultural policy had changed; this thesis analyzed the quality and direction of this change. In the Soviet Union the post-war ideological campaigns have changed the nature of Soviet cultural policy in the sense that punishment was no longer lethal. The purpose of these campaigns had become redefining what Soviet culture should look like. This policy, however, was not practical, but rather rhetorical. The ultimate goal was not to affect culture, but rather to demonstrate what it should and should not look like. Cultural policy proper was overshadowed completely by cultural policy as display. In the United States the House Un-American Activities Committee attacked the most prominent and loud center of American culture - Hollywood. In this case again, the purpose of this policy has not been to exert actual influence on culture, but rather to insist, that there are parts of culture that can be "un-American". In the American case this policy was even more "as display" than in the Soviet Union, simply because the HUAC could not be the source of actual restrictive cultural policy. Overall...
