This master thesis deals with the study and design of upholstered seating for interior use. It consists of two parts. The theoretical part covers the history of seating, typology, anthropometry and ergonomy. Furthermore, it describes the requirements for the construction of furniture, creation of upholstery and for safety. The practical part of this work describes the design process inspired by natural structures and the construction of a prototype. First, my research on existing pieces of furniture inspired by nature is presented. This is followed by an introduction to my design in the form of sketches and visualizations. Next, the selection of a manufacturer for the creation of a prototype is described. The final product is presented with photographs of the prototype. Finally, participation and results from competitions are presented.

The output of this diploma thesis is a functional prototype of a positioning upholstered armchair in a scale of 1: 1. In the first part we find the history of seating furniture with emphasis on positioning and upholstered armchairs. Furthermore, ergonomic requirements for seating furniture, safety requirements for seating according to standards and, last but not least, current trends in seating furniture. The practical part includes the research, description of the design of the upholstered armchair and its subsequent production, including description of the structure and materials used in the prototype production. The text is accompanied by visualizations of the armchair itself and photographs from prototype production.

The aim of this thesis was to design light rest chair for use in private interior. At first it was necessary to study the theory. The first part of the thesis is focused on the theory of sitting and the history of sitting furniture at short. Continuels to deal with the typology of sitting furniture and upholstered seating furniture, ergonomics, and proper dimensions. A considerable part is dedicated to ulpholstery technology and contemporary materials. The second half of this thesis describes designing process of the product, from research and first sketches, models creation to creation of the resulting product. Technical drawings is included.

This bachelor's thesis handles the topic of creation of training aids that are meant for secondary school students of upholstery. The main aim of the theoretical part is to define the training aid, its creation and application in the teaching process. The quality of the lessons should be improved through using this training aid, especially with the use of teaching principles. Methods that will be used in the theoretical part are primarily the study of the specialized/technical literature and its subsequent analysis, synthesis and comparison. The practical part will be concerning the training aid's creation itself. The importance of this aid, which will be used during upholsterer's practical training courses, will especially be better clarity of the training and above it its tangible form, which the students would be able to try on their own. The training aid will develop students' skills, knowledge and abilities. They will be able to master the technical terminology. This work will be docu-mented on photographs. When the training aid is made, it should help teachers with the application of the recent curriculum as well as to students with under-standing of the subject. Bachelor's thesis discusses the importance of training aids in the final part.

Diploma thesis follows up the classical technologies of upholstered seats from the interwar period. It is particularly focused on the composition of the individual layers of upholstery and feasibility of the construction nowadays. The theoretical part includes description of the interwar period and selected designers and manufacturers of that time. It also describes construction of different types of upholstery and materials used for the construction. The ergonomics of seating and impacts of seating on the human health is mentioned. The practical part comprises of the reconstruction of an upholstered chair from the interwar period. The upholstery was made from contemporary materials, however keeping the classic upholstery technology.

The presented thesis deals with the problematic of upholstered furniture. The theoretical part deals with the distribution of upholstered furniture, including its history, commonly used materials and technologies used from those historical to contemporary ones. The thesis also describes today's production of polyurethane foams, supplemented by a production scheme. The experimental part of the work is focused on identifying practical identification of breathability of polyurethane foams, which was performed by the METEFEM, type FF-12/A machine. This machine is a part of the test equipment in the furniture laboratory at Mendel University in Brno. An integral part of this thesis is the evaluation of the findings and their contribution to practice.

In this final thesis which is focused on contemporary upholstering technology, the proposal for the production of upholstered chair with extended seating area is presented. In the theoretical part, the author describes the historical development of long chairs, ergonomics of a sitting in a long chair and technology of upholstering. Subsequently, the study presents background research of contemporary long chairs and custom solution of long chair. The solution includes technical drawings and descriptions of the supporting skeleton of a long chair and upholstery compositions drawings and description. At the end, the solution is evaluated.

At first the bachelor thesis deals with historical progress of upholstered bed panels and bed panels in general. Function demands required by nowadays user and ergonomic factors which are taken into account during manufacturing are also described here. Then the research of current trends is set up, supported by pictures from main world furniture fairs in recent years, and each design is characterized. In next section the overview of nowadays upholstery materials used in manufacturing process is formed, based on market and technology research. All bachelor thesis ended up with designing upholstered panel which is created on base of theoretic knowledge of historical progress, current trends and manufacturing possibilities.

Bachelor thesis deals with upholstered seating furniture, namely with materials for manufacturing of upholstery furniture and development of upholstery. It also includes historical evolution of upholstery tabourets and low seats. With the knowledge from the theorethical part, there are drawn graphic design sets of material composition needed for upholstery historical frame of tabouret and costs of purchased materials are calculated. After the evaluation of every proposal, the reconstruction of historical frame and upholstery of tabouret were done.
