The significance of self-helping groups in caregiving for clients with the Alzheimer's disease
KOUŘILOVÁ, Milena
Alzheimer´s dementia is a neurodegenerative disease which leads to a decline of some populations of neurons and as a result of this to brain atrophy. This results in the formation of dementia syndrome. With respect to the aging population, the issue of neurodegenerative diseases is also more and more important. The objective of the thesis was to monitor if carers for the person with Alzheimer´s dementia have information about the self-help group and to monitor the need of carers for the establishment of a self-help group in South Bohemia region. A qualitative method of research was used. The data was gained by a method of semi-standardized interview. From the research is clear that only two carers out of six have certain information about a self-help group.Another part of the research was to monitor the need of carers for people with Alzheimer´s disease for establishing a self-help group in the South-Bohemian region. The gained results inform about the fact that the information of carers about the self-help groups is very low and they would welcome the establishment of a self-help group in South-Bohemian region. The results of this thesis can be used as the information source for the Czech Alzheimer Society and can be a stimulus for opening a self-help group in the South-Bohemian region.
Memory disorders in old age
KROUPOVÁ, Jitka
Memory changes or disorders are typical for old age. The ability to absorb new information, to store it in memory and the subsequent information processing decline in old age. The dividing line between memory impairment and dementia is very vague. Czech Alzheimer Society deals with people affected by dementia. The organisation was launched in June 2008 under a project called Days of memory, project of the early memory disorders detection promotion. The practical part of my thesis deals with the project Days of memory. The first goal of the practical part is to find the reasons why clients suffering from memory disorders seek help at the ČALS contact point {--} the Centre for the Elderly PATUP in ZSF JU. The second aim of the practical part is to compare experiences of the ČALS contact point workers who are involved in the Project of the early memory disorders detection promotion, "Days of Memory", in memory scanning. The data required for the practical part of the thesis were obtained by a combination of a qualitative and quantitative research.
