Changing Autonomy in times of PT: Explaining the rise and fall of the Southern Giant
Stipic, Igor ; Gotz Betancourt, Shirley (advisor) ; Zajíček, Miroslav (referee)
The objective of this thesis is to analyze the concept of autonomy, taking as the case study Brazil under the Workers Party Government (2003-2016). Approach that will be taken aims at combining perspectives of Latin-American structuralism with those of realism and interdependency. Thesis essentially concentrates on two specific issue areas: global economy and international politics. By constructing a theoretical framework, I aspire to identify and analyze various factors considered to have a direct impact on the study matter. In doing so, I consider the behavior of distinct variables and their effect on the degree of autonomy. Finally, thesis addresses problems of international insertion for peripheral countries, considering possibilities and limits of truly autonomous action.
Trade Relations between Colombia and the Czech Republic
Lukeš, Nataly ; Daza Aramayo, Lourdes Gabriela (advisor) ; Zajíček, Miroslav (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to determine and analyze trade relations between the Czech Republic and Colombia and to identify concrete business opportunities among them. the sub goals include the comparison of macroeconomic, political and socioeconomic indicators, analysis of the trade flows of goods, to identify the top 10 products and to determine the competitive advantage of both countries by using Porter's model of national competitive advantage. Finally several business opportunities are identified and each of them is described in more detail. The used methods are description, analysis and comparison of data from the Trademap webpage, World Bank and official records and reports from both countries trade ministries.
Mexico and its insertion into International Global System.
Ivanovic, Marija ; Gotz Betancourt, Shirley (advisor) ; Zajíček, Miroslav (referee)

Estimation of the cost of photovoltaic subsidies - Italy, France and Belgium
Hromádka, Ondřej ; Zajíček, Miroslav (advisor) ; van Koten, Silvester (referee)
The purpose of the master theses is to estimate gross direct financial cost brought about by support schemes for electricity generation in photovoltaic power plants in France, Italy and Belgium. In order to understand support schemes, I deal with legislation of each particular country and with its development. Based on development of subsidies for photovoltaics and production of electricity of new instalations I determine the final amount of costs. Individual outputs are subsequently compared with data regarding the Czech Republic, Spain, Germany, UK, Greece and Slovakia.
Jak čelit nejistotě při rozhodování o odstranění fosforu ve vodohospodářství
Brabec, Jan ; Vojáček, Ondřej (advisor) ; Zajíček, Miroslav (referee)
Implementation of EU Water Framework Directive has led to an increased demand for cost-benefit analysis in water management. The directive introduces a good status, which is required on all water bodies by 2027. Excessive phosphorus inflows are one of the main reasons for not meeting the criteria in the Czech Republic. If achieving of the good status is not cost-proportionate, exemption can be applied. Many different methodologies were created across different states, including Czech official methodology by Slavíková et al. (2015). However, this methodology does not deal with uncertainty of measures effectiveness. This thesis describes how to implement the uncertainty into calculations using Bayesian networks. A case study of Stanovice water reservoir demonstrates the approach practically. Results of the Bayesian network show, that selected measures with available data eliminate desired amount of phosphorus in 70% of all cases. This reduction is most likely sufficient, because it holds for the upper estimate of required abatement (60 to 200 kg). Based on comparison of benefits and costs, it seems net benefits are generated by implementing suggested measures. Therefore, policy recommendation is to implement the selected measures.

Economic evaluation of the current revitalization of watercourses in urban areas, with emphasis on the concept of ecosystem services
Paseka, Petr ; Zajíček, Miroslav (advisor) ; Macháč, Jan (referee)
This thesis examines the impact of the concept of ecosystem services in the evaluation of the social costs and benefits of urban watercourse revitalization. Its possible use is shown on the specific selected project. The theoretical part explains the economic substance of ecosystem services, defines related terms, introduces different approaches of various economic schools to the concept and describes its historical development. The practical part then quantifies the net social benefits and costs of the selected project using cost- benefit analysis extended by the concept of ecosystem services. In the conclusion, the objective indicators are calculated and analysed in order to identify the strengths and weeknesses of using the concept of ecosystem services.
Analysis of the impact of ownership on effective operation of heating plants in the Czech Republic
Fajfr, Tomáš ; Macháč, Jan (advisor) ; Zajíček, Miroslav (referee)
Privatization transformation took place in the Czech Republic at the beginning of the nineties which also highly influenced heating plant industry. Some heating plant companies are in private ownership and some remained or were returned back into ownership of towns and villages. The main hypothesis of the bachelor thesis is that heating plant companies are more effective and are reaching better economic results than companies owned by towns and villages. This hypothesis is confirmed with the aid of statistic method of linear regression. Private heating plant companies have in average higher sales on employee, higher return on equity, higher return on sales and also higher share of investments on total revenue. Minor hypothesis saying that towns heating plant will sell heat energy cheaper was disproved.
Závislost oficiálních fotografii politických představitelů na formě vlád západního světa v letech 1821-2013
Vejvodová, Veronika ; Zajíček, Miroslav (advisor) ; van Koten, Silvester (referee)
I study the role that facial expressions play in determining political ideology. I have collected 20,475 assessments of politicians representing 14 countries. Based on a dataset captured from 1821-2015, our results imply that the facial expressions of politicians do play a significant role in the explanation of their ideology. Controlling for positivism of expressions model confirms this general picture: Democratic regime politicians have a tendency to express positive emotions since they are in principle selling the future. Autocratic regimes are mostly trying to exert fear and the facial expressions of dictators are non-positive. We also find that evaluation of the regime is negatively correlated with TV broadcasting in some countries. Accordingly, we can claim that voting perception and behavior is guided by the pictures and videos which are delivered via television.
Limits of the dictator game in relation to altruism
Šestořád, Tomáš ; Doležalová, Antonie (advisor) ; Zajíček, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis investigates an altruism using the dictator game. The purpose of my research is to determine and specify the limits of the game in relation to the altruism. I have managed to alter the rules of the game in order to reduce the effect of inequity aversion and to enable respondents to demonstrate their negative social preferences. I have conducted an experiment, designed to evaluate the hypothesis that the social preferences obtained from the modified games are in average lower than the results of the standard dictator game. Using the Welch`s F-test, I have confirmed the established hypothesis at a significance level 1%. Some of the respondents misunderstood the setting of the experiment; hence its interpretation is limited.
