The European Social Models
Wolfová, Veronika ; Mysíková, Martina (advisor) ; Vančura, Matěj (referee)
This bachelor thesis studies social policies across Europe and models that can be detected among social security systems. Analysis of models is based on earlier studies that had examined the EU member states before the states of Eastern Europe joined in 2004. In this thesis the author extended the theory to examine current situation, when the European Union comprises 27 members. With an emphasis on social policy, social models are set in the context of strategies that the European Commission issued as incentives for social reform. Part of this work is the evaluation of social models and their possible convergence to the European social model.
Reform of the systems of retirement pension in the founder states of European Union
Platil, Lukáš ; Hedbávný, Petr (advisor) ; Vančura, Matěj (referee)
The thesis deals with the pension systems in Germany, France and Italy. Its main subject is a description of the reforms of these systems during past twenty years - the description of the reasons to reform, of the reforms themselves and of the outlook for the future. In addition, the thesis deals with the indexation procedures in these countries and examines the relevance of using the consumer price index for these purposes. The thesis consists of three main sections. The first section briefly describes current pension systems in given countries. The second part describes the reasons leading to the necessity of reforms - increasing financial demands of these systems due to i.a. the demographic trends and the labor market developments. It also lists main components of the reforms during past twenty years, whose main objective was the financial consolidation and the move towards multi-pillar systems. The evaluation of the persistent problems and of the necessity to continue with reforms is also included. The third section describes the options for the pension indexation and the indexation procedures in given countries. It also discusses the relevance of the consumer price index for the measurement of the increase in the pensioners' cost of living - whether this index is a good measure for the...
Determinants of wages
Kroupa, Jan ; Šolc, Jan (advisor) ; Vančura, Matěj (referee)
The thesis shows how human capital is an important part of wage and how other characteristics (individual or corporate) affect wage level. First of all, the theory of human capital and investments in specific or general training are described and it is shown how these investments affect the income distribution during life. The main part of human capital is education so the thesis presents some methods how to measure the return on investment in education (full method or Mincerian equation). Gender pay gap is still an issue. Part of the difference in earnings between men and women can be explained by different characteristics but the other part originates in discrimination or sectoral segregation. The thesis provides decomposition of gender pay gap into three components with different cause of origin - the effect of equipment, effect of discrimination and effect of choice. After theoretical part, there is an analysis of data from the Czech Statistical Office containing values of average wages, median wages and gender pay gap. These values are analyzed in accordance to factors mentioned in theoretical part along with the question, if these factors affect wages according to assumptions. The thesis practically confirm the theory that wage rises proportionally to age, to higher education and that the...
