Sally Mann and David Hamilton. Comparison in the context of nymphet archetype and its photographic representations.
Sekta, Karol ; Vančát, Pavel (advisor) ; JANOŠČÍK, Václav (referee)
Thesis would be based on deep studies conducted on two photographers - Sally Mann and David Hamilton. The form of work is going to be a result of comparison of two creative paths which led artists to very the same effect (and provoke quite the same questions of perversity/legality/aesthetics/kitsch). Even if photographers acted in completely different intentions(presenting directly opposite approaches to art piece as such), still they have a lot in common. In result I would deposit this specific relation between two circles (represented strongly by two mentioned artists) on this quite specific dualism of motherhood-like and intimate approach of Sally Mann depictions contrary to David Hamilton's aggressive, straightly sexual way of photographing his young "subjects-objects".
Position of Czech Documentary Photography During the Normalization Era
Folk, Čeněk ; VANČÁT, Pavel (advisor) ; Ledvina, Josef (referee)
The subject of my thesis is the position of Czech documentary photography during the normalization era in Czech territory. The term "position" encompasses several aspects of review: political and creative conditions under which the Czech documentary photography was originating; its status within the photography as artistic discipline and within other artistic disciplines; thinking about documentary photography and its changes over time; social application of documentary photography and its impact on society and, last but not least, its impact on political events. In the 70s and 80s the Czech documentary photography reached the greatest expansion, despite the uneasy political background. My thesis examines (among other things) how, why and under what circumstances this boom occurred.

Šárková, Eliška ; Vančát, Pavel (advisor) ; SILVERIO, Robert (referee)
In my work, I would like to dedicate the topic of amateur photography, work should primarily use deductive methods - from general knowledge of amateur photography to a concrete example. A concrete example will consist of an analysis of the archives of my grandfather, who is an extraordinary in the context of amateur photography. Reasons: 1, the archive is purely amateur, but his unique approach to photography as: (thoughtful composition, experimental approach, inspired by famous photos) 2, all the pictures have a strong documentary value, 3, due preserved in a coherent set, we can infer the importance of family albums and emotions present in them. So I believe that my work can be beneficial for the topic of amateur photographs.
Phenomenom of the Helsinki school
Zahradníčková, Kateřina ; SILVERIO, Robert (advisor) ; Vančát, Pavel (referee)
This final thesis aims to introduce the reader with the Helsinki School phenomenon especially with the less known facts. The great deal of attention is dedicated to the historical development of teaching photography in Finland which precede the phenomenon itself. First chapter is chronologically ordered for better clarity, since the origination to present time. Other important part is dedicated to the term of the Helsinki School and to Timothy Persons as its founder. The third and last chapter is focused to selection of six artists of the Helsinki School. Their work is described by the monographic method. After reading my work, the reader should have a clear idea of what preceded the Helsinki School, what is characteristic for it and who are its members. I would like to approach the reader with this topic from as many angels as possible so that the picture of the Helsinki School is complete.

Performance and the medium photography. 60´s and 80´s in Czechoslovakia
Mertová, Alexandra ; Vančát, Pavel (advisor) ; PREKOP, Rudolf (referee)
This thesis is a theoretical study on performance in relation to the medium of photography from the 1960s to 80s in Czechoslovakia. The first part is devoted to the medium of photography, photographic recorded performance and to the clarification of the concept of performance. Furthermore it marginally outlines the historical context of the Performing Arts and the concepts of happening, event and performance, and gives some examples of the world, but mostly Czechoslovak artists - performers. The core of the work is the creation of a typology in so far as it is related to both performance and phography, namely it's distribution into documentary photography, staged photographic performance and photo performance which is used in the multimedia work. Furthermore I present concepts of copyright photographs and photographs both authorized and unauthorized. This typology of approaches to the medium of photography I developed on the basis of personal interviews, in terms of this work considered crucial.
