Henri Pourrat's Gaspard des Montagnes

The diploma thesis introduces in detail the chiefliterary work ofHenri Pourrat Gaspard from the Mountains. After the introduction ofthe author's individuality and after highlighting the main sources of inspiration of Pourrat 's work, the thesis is devoted to a thorough analysis of "Gaspard from the Mountains" in terms ofhow it was created in accordance with the oral folk tradition, an analysis which has not been attempted to by anyone tilI this time. This has been proved on the theme of the work itself and on its episodes, structuring of Gaspard from the Mountains into individual part s corresponding with particular evenings which as ifthey were spent together with a woman-narrator ofthe story, on the inserted humour, and last but not least on the way ofhow language devices typical for oral expression are employed. One whole chapter ofthe thesis has been devoted to individuallanguage levels ofthe work. Next, the spiritual part ofthe literary work which basically determines the direction ofthe main story line is stressed because faith underlies all actions of Anne Marie, the heroine ofthe story. The lyrical as well as the spiritual parts also display Henri Porraťs extraordinary poetic capacity. The last chapter ofthe thesis provides the first critical evaluation ofboth Czech translations of Gaspard .from the...
