Comparison of media image of islam in german and czech media: before and after the murder of Then Van Gogh

This bachelor thesis compares the media image of Islam in German and Czech media before and after the murder of the Dutch director Theo van Gogh. He was assassinated on 2 November 2004. His murderer was young Muslim Mohammed Bouyeri. Van Gogh's murder caused the wave of violence in the Netherlands. In Germany it caused many concerns, because there is a large Turkish minority and other Arabic minorities. The impulse for the assassination was probably van Gogh's film Submission, which questioned the Islam stereotypes and criticized the treatment of women. After his murder the political debate on the issues of integration and immigration arose in the Western Europe. This bachelor thesis analyzes articles from German and Czech media, namely from the weekly magazine Der Spiegel and from the journal Mladá fronta DNES and uses the qualitative content analysis and the method of the grounded theory. This thesis is divided into two main chapters.
Everyday life of czech journalist between 1918-1938

This essay deals with historical analysis of dailiness of journalists during the period of the First Republic, which takes from october 1918 to september 1938. The focus is concentrated on their everyday duties, problems and work-habits. This essay describes legal and social frame of journalistic work. The first part concerns with characteristic and theoretical framework of journalistic practice including the profesionalism, the educational process and the social status of journalists. The second part of the essay deals with the dailiness, everyday practises and duties of the members of editorial staff, family life of journalists and their sources of information. This work describes two concrete examples which represent the most respected newsroom in the Czechoslovakia during the period of the First Republic. The aim of this essay is to describe changes that occured in this period and which can now be seen as foundations of modern journalism.
Personality of Josef Harry Jelínek

Text represents the personality of Josef Harry Jelinek. The aim of this work is to provide a comprehensive picture of Josef Harry Jelinek and present it as a journalist and publisher. Most of existing texts does not deal with his journalistic and publishing career. his text is particularly keen to introduce lesser-known part of Jelínek personality. Initially, the work is devoted to the life of Josef Harry Jelinek until 1938. The most important part of the work is the analysis of Jelinek's writing and publishing, which is also one of the objectives of this work. One of the chapters follows the publication of the magazine "Znova", in which Jelínek worked as editor. The text analyzes the entire magazine, points out propaganda elements and generally reflects the character of this journal. Simultaneously, the work discussed texts, the author is right Jelinek. This work contains a chapter summarizing the publishing of the European publishing house, which Jelinek led during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The journalist Julius Pachmayer in the people's court

The thesis named Journalist Julius Pachmayer in the People's Court in detail and comprehensively deals with the case of the fascist, pro-Nazi political movement Flag member Julius Pachmayer. Pachmayer was also an editor and editor in chief of the newspaper of the same name, which was published in the First and Second Republic and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Pachmayer was a professional journalist, who in addition to Flag has also contributed to the People's leaves, the Czech word, National politics and other pro- German sheets that were issued in the time of Protectorate. After the Second World War, the People's Court tried and convicted Pachmayer of collaborating with the Nazis to prison, where he died in 1947. This thesis deals with Pachmayer's life and his journalistic praxis, the behaviour in Flag and also deals with the court process from arrest to Pachmayer's death in a prison hospital. The main goal of this thesis is to answer the question whether the Julius Pachmayer was an activist collaborator, or rather just conformist performing the orders which war period requested.
Sequel novel in the czech press from 1945-1948

The diploma thesis Sequel novel in the Czechoslovakian press from 1945 - 1948 deals with historical content analysis of three newspapers: Lidova demokracie, Svobodne slovo, Rude pravo and seven magazines: Kveten, Novy svet, Svet v obrazech, Rada zen, Kvety, Sobota and Vyvoj in the period of time 1. 1. 1945 - 31. 12. 1948. Theoretic part consists of historical context of fiction in newspapers as well as magazines and also explanation of situation in political and the media sphere, mostly in the press in above mentioned period. Ministry of information played a big part in a postwar press development and it had monopoly on entire paper used for making printed material and thanks to that fact they had newspapers and magazines publishers in a Czech territory under control. The practical, mainstay part of dissertation is focused in describing the issue of sequel novels by their detailed analysis in particular periodic, which has various specializations and represents different political part. Novels are thoroughly analyzed, it's story is described and the main topic of each series is defined. Emphasis are put on data, numbers of publication, number of novel's parts, novels authors, their nationality, political orientation and their literary style. The final thesis entitled Práce mladých, list svazu mládeže z let 1946 až 1963 (Youth Work magazine, the paper of Youth Association in the years 1946 to 1963) records the course of existence of a magazine called Práce mladých (Youth Work) published by the central committee of Svaz české mládeže (Czech Youth Association), later to become a federal organization called Československý svaz mládeže (Czechoslovak Youth Association). The paper served as a bulletin for the numerous officials of over twenty thousand prime groups of the organization. The thesis examines the history of the youth association as well as the circumstances of the paper's conception. It tracks the paper's countless changes in course within its 18- year long existence, and states reasons of its end. The financial and political background of the magazine is thoroughly analysed, especially in relation to the role it played in communist propaganda. The thesis also addresses the graphic aspect of the magazine, the art of its covers, page layout, content structure and its supplements, as well as its editorial staff and board. Changes in a presentation of a "good" scout

Main theme of the diploma thesis is the children's magazine Junák, which is especially intended for members of the Czech Scout organization Junák. The thesis deals with the main ideas of the Scout Movement and its significance for the society. Further, it describes the history of Czech scouting from the beginning up to now. Subsequent part pays attention to the magazine Junák, its history and importance for the members to the Czech Scout organization. The second practical part is devoted to the research of the changes in a presentation of an ideal scout member in a various time periods based on articles published in the magazine Junák. As a method the quantitative content analysis is used. The survey explores how the characteristics, abilities, values and activities of the "good" scout have changed since the beginning of the 20th century. In addition it tries to find out if the scout was influenced by the contemporary political and social circumstances. The research part consists of eight particular presentations created by eight representative volumes of the magazine Junák. Conclusion is comprised of the summarizing overview based on the previous presentations. It stresses the changes and differences of the attributes of the scouts over almost one hundred years.
Propaganda in the Czechoslovakia in 1950s

The thesis deals with the communist propaganda in Czechoslovakia during the early fifties. The opening part describes the historical context, media system, and establishing of regime's censorship and information monopoly. In the interpretative part, the thesis analyses the ideological stereotypes and mainsprings of propaganda. The thesis applies the method of qualitative media content analysis of daily press and other media types. The communistic ideology is viewed as a systematic and comprehensive "gesamtkunstwerk" influencing the society. The conclusion of the thesis is the interpretation of the ideological mainsprings and theircontext. The thesis shows parallels between principles of construction of the ideological text and mythical stories.
Sudeten German press, in Bavaria in the period from 1945 to 1955

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of Sudete German press published in Bavaria from 1945 to 1955, it means directly after the displacement of Sudete German from Czechoslovakia. The first part of the work analyses the period from 1945 to 7th September 1949 with the focus on the first astablishment of German press in the American zone. The main emphasis is laid on the issues of Sudete German clubs in Bavaria and on the origins of Sudete German press which is further analysed. The second part starts with the establishment of the West German Federal Republic (7th September 1949) and its consequences for the Sudete German press. It also presents the new press law and its contribution to the development of freedom of speech. This part also analyses the most important press titles of the period. Apart from the analyses of the printing press titles in the mentioned periods, the thesis deals with their historical contexts including the course of events before 1945. It is very important to understand these events to be able to grasp further development of Czech - German relationship after the war, development of unique Sudete German press and the situation of Sudete German after the dislocation from their historical areas in Czech countries.
The World speaks-magazine radio listeners, fans of gramophone records and friends of good movie

This bachelor thesis focuses on the development and content of a magazine for radio listeners, fans of gramophone records and fans of good movies. This magazine was called "Přehled rozhlasu" (between the years 1932 and 1934), later (until 1939) it was called "Svět mluví". Vilém Práger was the publisher and editor of this independent magazine which represented the opinions of radio listeners and brought them important information and opinions from inside and also outside of the radio. It was a key alternative for similar magazines which were produced by the Radiojournal company itself (these two magazines were called "Radiojournal" and "Týden rozhlasu"). For better understanding, the development of Práger's magazine is set into the context of social and political events during 1930's in our country, with a brief description of media from this time. Most of the magazine's content was devoted to radio production, to conditions and the aim of radio broadcasting. Information about the constitution, funding and personal structure of the radio station in Czechoslovakia in the 20th and 30th is also included in this bachelor thesis, as well as the description of the editor Vilém Práger and other important people who contributed to his magazine.
