This bachelor's thesis is dedicated to the study of Biblical and Christian influence on the works of Gabriel García Márquez. With regards to the selected topic, it is greatly beneficial to provide both the historical and literary context. Therefore, the first part of this thesis is focused on the Christian climate in Colombia and the use of Biblical themes in literature during the author's life. An important component of this section is the short biography of García Márquez with concentration on his commitment to Christianity and the Bible. This thesis examines Biblical symbolism in the overall work of the author, not only in the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude, so this section also focuses on the presence of Biblical themes in other selected writings of the author. The second section of this thesis is dedicated to a detailed analysis of the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude and the Biblical themes in it. This portion emphasizes the direct and indirect parallels between the Bible and this novel. Gabriel García Márquez is known mainly for magical realism. The goal of this bachelor's thesis is to provide an alternative view on his authorship and point out the importance of Biblical themes in his works.
