3D Printing of Ceramic Bone Grafts with Different Internal Architecture
Novotná, Lenka ; Sekora, Jiří (referee) ; Provazník, Ivo (advisor)
Bioceramics in the form of scaffolds hold great promise in bone tissue regeneration. While the scaffold composition is important for biocompatibility, the internal architecture plays a key role in allowing proper cell penetration, nutrient diffusion, bone ingrowth, vascularization as well as mechanical properties. A solid freeform fabrication is a promising processing technique, allowing to study structural parameters independently. This bachelor thesis is focused on ceramic bone replacements with different internal structure. The thesis is divided into 8 chapters. The first four chapters briefly summarize the current state of the art in the following fields: bone structure, requirements for synthetic bone replacements, scaffold architecture, and fabrication methods with an emphasis on 3D printing. The next chapters deal with experimental part. The image analysis of mouse skeleton was performed. On the basis of the measured pore size (50 200 m) and according to the literature search, 16 structures with various shape, curvature and pore size were designed. The CAD models were printed by a stereolithography from a tricalcium phosphate dispersion. Sintered ceramic scaffolds exhibited an ideal structure for application in bone tissue engineering. Scaffolds contained both interconnected macro- and micropores of optimal sizes up to 500 m and about 3 m, respectively. The results confirm that stereolithography is suitable, and compared to others, precise method for preparing scaffolds having different internal structures. The individual structural characteristics influencing the scaffold behaviour will be possible to study independently to each other. And thus improve the scientific knowledge in the field of treatment of large segmental bone defects.
Finger vein biometrics
Bělehrádek, Stanislav ; Sekora, Jiří (referee) ; Mézl, Martin (advisor)
This thesis presents basic concepts in the field of biometrics, with a focus on optical methods of finger vein biometrics. The paper also contains additional information including physics and anatomy terms, which are important for understanding presented problems. Part of the thesis is draft of the device used for finger vein biometry and proposal of effective image preprocessing process for biometric purpose. Main part of the thesis contains creation and testing of such device. User interface is created in MATLAB and allows identification and verification of people with record in database. Biometric system is tested on group of 16 individuals. Achieved results are discussed and compared with results of similar devices.

Sensor Based Motion Tracking and Recognition in Martial Arts Training
Agojo, Stephan ; Sekora, Jiří (referee) ; Harabiš, Vratislav (advisor)
In various martial arts, competitors are interested in quantifying and categorising techniques which are exercised during training. The implementation of embedded systems into training gear, especially a portable wireless body worn system, based on inertial sensors, facilitates the quantification and categorisation of forces and accelerations involved during the training of martial arts. The scope of this paper is to give a brief overview of contemporary technology and devices, describe key methods that are implemented in such devices and as well to provide a project outline. For this reason a literature research was carried out using search engines and databases. The search yielded that devices are capable of tracking activities of daily life; however only one product was found which can track and recognise techniques applied in martial arts training just for the upper body. The realisation of a sensor based tracking system which can track and classify different exercises is possible with present technology. Even so, different challenges such as implementing a sensor fusion and classifier algorithm need to be overcome. Therefore, the project development has to be viewed as an iterative process.
Forearm prosthesis
Vařečka, Martin ; Sekora, Jiří (referee) ; Balogh, Jaroslav (advisor)
Bachelor’s thesis is focused on design of active hand prosthesis. This thesis summarizes upper limb anatomy focused on forearm. Then deals with amputations techniques and indication for amputation. Part describing contemporary prosthesis is important to design an active forearm prosthesis, který je popsán v třetí a čtvrté kapitole. The system processes biosignals using instrumentation amplifiers. The signals are evaluated by the Arduino development board, which mediates control of servo motors.
Statistical Analysis of Anomalies in Sensor Data
Gregorová, Kateřina ; Čmiel, Vratislav (referee) ; Sekora, Jiří (advisor)
This thesis deals with the failure mode detection of aircraft engines. The main approach to the detection is searching for anomalies in the sensor data. In order to get a comprehensive idea of the system and the particular sensors, the description of the whole system, namely the aircraft engine HTF7000 as well as the description of the sensors, are dealt with at the beginning of the thesis. A proposal of the anomaly detection algorithm based on three different detection methods is discussed in the second chapter. The above-mentioned methods are SVM (Support Vector Machine), K-means a ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average). The implementation of the algorithm including graphical user interface proposal are elaborated on in the next part of the thesis. Finally, statistical analysis of the results, the comparison of efficiency particular models and the discussion of outputs of the proposed algorithm can be found at the end of the thesis.
Expert System for Assessing the Type of Arrhythmia during Catheter Radiofrequency Ablation of Cardiac Arrhythmias
Šromová, Michaela ; Provazník, Ivo (referee) ; Sekora, Jiří (advisor)
The theoretical part of the thesis contains a brief description of the anatomy and electrophysiology of the heart, as well as both, surface and intracardiac electrocardiograms. The thesis also describes the different types of cardiac tachycardias, their differential diagnosis and what is known as The Expert System. The practical section of the thesis notes and outlines the tree diagrams, and additionally describes various software solutions of The Expert System. Further, the thesis includes the classification of the heart rhythm, using The Expert System method with three typical tachycardia cases, and including a list of questions asked by The Expert System to the user. Answers to all questions asked are being assessed in the text, as well as illustrated in submitted examples of intracardiac ECG recordings. The Expert System has been verified during a series of catheterization procedures on 26 patients (where the evaluated cardiac rhythm was 34). The classication of the type of heart rhythm (per The Expert System) when comparing the results with the doctors coincided in 100 % of tested cases.
