The data analysis on perception of quality of life in European cities
Pulcová, Petra ; Jarošová, Eva (advisor) ; Pecáková, Iva (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is about data analysis on perception of quality of life in European cities based on survey, which was made in 2009 by European commission. Theoretical part is focused on explaining the concept of quality of life and basic methods of correlation analysis. At the end is dissertating about some methods for determining order of units by more than one benchmark. Practical part it is focused on correlation analysis, calculation of correlation coefficients and determining order of cities.
Statistical inference for categorical data analysis
Kocáb, Jan ; Pecáková, Iva (advisor) ; Coufalová, Petra (referee)
This thesis introduces statistical methods for categorical data. These methods are especially used in social sciences such as sociology, psychology and political science, but their importance has increased also in medical and technical sciences. In the first part there is mentioned statistical inference for a proportion. Here is written about classical, exact and Bayesian methods for estimating and hypothesis testing. If we have a large sample then we can approximate exact distribution by normal distribution but if we have a small sample cannot use this approximation and it is necessary to use discrete distribution which makes inference more complicated. The second part deals with two categorical variables analysis in contingency tables. Here are explained measures of association for 2 x 2 contingency tables such as difference of proportion and odds ratio and also presented how we can test independence in the case of large sample and small one. If we have small sample we are not allowed to use classical chi-squared tests and it is necessary to use alternative methods. This part contains variety of exact tests of independence and Bayesian approach for the 2 x 2 table too. In the end of this part there is written about a table for two dependent samples and we are interested whether two variables give identical results which occurs when marginal proportions are equal. In the last part there are methods used on data and discussed results.
Possibilities of the graphical analysis of categorical data
Rytíř, Michal ; Pecáková, Iva (advisor) ; Löster, Tomáš (referee)
The goal of my work was described the possibilities of the graphical analysis of categorical data. The first part is about clarifying the concept of categorical data and the rules of charting; the second part about the column and the pie chart, which are used most frequently. The last part presents graphical displays which often have variety properties and they are not used in normal commercial statistical programs. For example they allow a visual test of the hypothesis of independence. These are fourfold displays, sieve diagram, trilinear plot and mosaic display.
Analysis of dependent samples in the market research
Mašková, Jana ; Pecáková, Iva (advisor) ; Coufalová, Petra (referee)
There are surveys carried out repeatedly on the same set of units. In connection with such research, we are talking about the dependent samples. The aim and the contribution of this diploma thesis is a summary of available methods for analyzing data from dependent samples for both continuous and discrete variables. The Czech literature has been devoted to this topic only marginally. The theoretical part is divided into two main parts for two waves and for more waves of exploration, which are further divided according to the type of reference variable. The third part is devoted to the application of the theoretical information in a market research.
The use of logistic regression in the market research
Brabcová, Hana ; Pecáková, Iva (advisor) ; Ranocha, Pavel (referee)
The aim of this work is to decide the real usage of logistic regression in the market research tasks respecting the needs of final users of research results. The main argument for the final decision is the comparison of its output to the output of an alternative classification method used in practice -- a classification tree method. The topic is divided into three parts. The first part describes the theoretical framework and approaches linked to logistic regression (chapter 2 and 3). The second part analyses the experience with the usage of logistic regression in Czech market research companies (chapter 4) and the topic is closed by applying the method on real data and comparing the output to the classification tree output (chapter 5 and 6).
A comparison of statistical packages such as SPSS, STATISTICA, and SAS Enterprise Guide.
Torboněnko, Natalja ; Řezanková, Hana (advisor) ; Pecáková, Iva (referee)
The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to compare three statistical software packages when applied to analysis of categorical data. These packages are SPSS, STATISTICA , and SAS Enterprise Guide. They provide a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques, and enable users to obtain the results of statistical procedures, without requiring programming. The comparison between these packages were based upon some features such as data input, capability to define missing values, value labels, producing a frequency tables (including multiple response), making a bar graphs, descriptive statistics, Binomial test, Chi-square goodness-of-fit test.
Analysis of internet visits and internet users
Šíla, Martin ; Řezanková, Hana (advisor) ; Pecáková, Iva (referee)
The diploma thesis concerns in two aspects which are the description of internet users and internet media. I show the ways of measuring visits, which is closely related to the operation of web sites and especially its economic aspect, the advertisement. I specify the indicators in view. I concentrate really carefully on the amount of real users, which is one of the most important indices. I apply the usage of these indices to practical examples. I point to sociodemographic user's profile of particular portals and compare them with other chosen servers. Consequently I determine specific recommendations for the advertisement submitters in the term of targeting their campaign accurately. By using many-variable statistical methods, I try to find out suitable groups of internet users based on their relation to advertisement. I consequently describe these groups of people and determine again certain recommendations.
Correspondence analysis application in MS Excel program
Ganajová, Michaela ; Řezanková, Hana (advisor) ; Pecáková, Iva (referee)
The aim of the diploma thesis was to create independently an application, automating a correspondence analysis calculation using MS Excel and taking advantage of VBA programming language. The application was then used to analyse Slovak banking sector. The created application is based on macro sets which can be split up to two parts. The first part produces a contingency table and converts it into a format usable in the second part. Then there is executed the Correspondence Analysis calculation itself. Supplement Matrix is being used, that allows to discharge functions from matrix and linear algebra. The application allows to process any matrix dimension. Dialog window offers four normalization types, shortened and also full output and it is possible to display row or column variable categories, eventually both. The analysis subject was to find out which of the products are typical for considered banks and for which clients, divided into age categories, is attractive particular bank and/or product. A starting point is a product usage data matrix at a particular bank. There was made a conclusion, that it is possible to divide banks into more traditional or modern type institutions and also that each bank has a typical product.
Statistics in educational test development
Otřísal, Václav ; Pecáková, Iva (advisor) ; Sixta, Jaroslav (referee)
The paper deals with a justifiability of the application of statistics in the process of test development. It also aims to show possibilities of its application on the final test version. The first part of the thesis brings up the fundamentals of test development theory. The second part aims to describe general impact of statistics application on the test qualities. It further focuses on item analysis as one of the tool to evaluate test items qualities. Among others it includes information about reliability and validity analysis so as about the test equating methods. The analytical part contains analysis conducted on the OSP test. The analytical part also deals with predicted test validity and with the quality level of data gained from pre-testing.
On-line survey method
Dvornáková, Táňa ; Pecáková, Iva (advisor) ; Průša, Milan (referee)
Thesis deals with modern ways of surveys using advancing information technology and internet which makes surveys using web applications more effective. After a short review of public opinion history the summary of principal czech and forign survey organizations engaged in determination of survey rules are presented. Thesis follows with description of classic and modern data collecting methods. Main attention is devoted to on-line survey method. The description of method, possibilities of realization, positives and negatives and use of on-line questionnaire survey are presented. Final part of thesis si focused on on-line survey applying. The quality of this method is considered by sociological survey.
