Theoretical basis of developing and evaluating worksheets for foreign language teaching with a focus on the Spanish language

The author of this doctoral thesis Theoretical basis of developing and evaluating worksheets for foreign language teaching with a focus on the Spanish language attempts to describe the current situation regarding the creation of worksheets. He highlights the fact that there is no theoretical basis for their production, and no evaluation of the quality and application of these worksheets in the teaching of Spanish. He also outlines ways how to solve this deficit and potential problems in the process of investigation into this topic. The main aim of this dissertation is to analyse the worksheets as a supplementary teaching material and to describe the whole process of their adoption, adaptation, creation, usage, evaluation, revision and actualization. Although the teachers usually complement their usual textbook with autonomous supplementary materials, the lack of methodology or empirical research on this topic is evident. In theoretical part of this doctoral thesis all available sources will be analysed and the emphasis will be put on comparing rules of the textbooks creation to worksheets creation in order to put together relevant information. The aim of this bachelor thesis is the translation of selected chapters from the German handbook Kinder falsch erziehen - aber richtig, written by the authors Rainer Sachse and Jana Fasbender, that is about the upbringing of children. This thesis consists of a translation of this text from German into Czech and of a commentary to this translation. The commentary is divided into a translation analysis, the translation method, the translation problems and the translation shifts.

Annotated translation: Bin ich normal, wenn ich mich im Konzert langweile? Von Christiane Tewinkel. Selected parts.

The subject of this Bachelor Thesis is a commented translation of selected chapters of the book "Bin ich normal, wenn ich mich im Konzert langweile?", published in 2004 in Cologne. It was written by a German musicologist Christiane Tewinkel, whose aim is to clarify the principles of classical music to the general public. This Thesis consists of two parts. The first one comprises the translation of the German text into Czech. The second part consists of a translation analysis of the text based on the model of Christiane Nord. The following chapter includes the translation method and approach based on Jiří Levý. Further, the solutions to translation problems on lexical, morphological, syntactical and pragmatic level are stated. The final chapter deals with the typology of translation shifts invented by Anton Popovič.

The aim of this thesis is to offer a functionally equivalent translation of the text Zuckerbers Zweifel written by the German publicist Thomas Schulz in 2017. The thesis is devided into two parts. The first is the actual translation of the text. The second part consists of a translation analysis of the original text, based on the Christane Nord's theory in her work Textanalyse und Übersetzen (1995). Contribution to the investigation of macro-stylistic shifts, as exemplified by the Czech translation of M. Stavaric's novel

1 ABSTRACT The goal of this diploma thesis is a complex analysis of the translation of the novel stillborn written by Michael Stavarič, translated into Czech by Radka Denemarková as Mrtvorozená Eliška Frankensteinová. The theoretical part presents the concept of translation norms (a starting point for reconstructing the translation method chosen), Skopos theory, the theory of metatexts, phenomena pertaining to self-translation (the new concept of "self-non-translation", i.e. the decision of an author-translator not to translate their own work) and Popovič's (1975, 1983) "typology of stylistic shifts and changes in translation" as a basic tool for the subsequent micro-textual contrastive analysis of selected parts of the translation. In the empirical part, the author and his work are briefly introduced, the thesis then provides a narratological analysis of the original; in the following part the translator and her work are introduced. This is followed by a description of the translation's reception in the Czech cultural environment based on an analysis of the available literary reviews ("epitexts") of the translation; these results are compared with the results of the analysis of the German literary reviews of the original. "I recommend its publication": A Portrait of Czech Fiction in the GDR in the 1970s and 1980s.

This thesis deals with the translations of Czech prose published in the 1970s and 1980s by Volk und Welt, the second largest publishing house in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Using the publisher's and other paratexts, the empirical research aims to reconstruct the image of Czech literature that Volk und Welt helped to create. The issue under scrutiny draws methodological as well as theoretical inspiration from Anton Popovič, the Slovak translation scholar who inter alia postulated a theory of metatexts, André Lefevere and the Manipulation School, as well as Gérard Genette, who came up with a theory of paratexts. The publishing activities of Volk und Welt are painted against a broad political and cultural background. By analysing the publisher's reviews, required for the books to be approved for circulation in the GDR, as well as by dissecting other paratexts, the author uncovers strategies whereby the selected books of Czech literature found their way both to the reviewers and the general public.

Interpreter's Self-training

This master's thesis deals with interpreter's self-training. The aim of this theoretical-empirical study is to give an overview of the interpreting students' attitude towards interpreter's self- training as well as of the techniques students use when they perform their self-training. Another aim is to describe the role of teachers in interpreter's self-training, i.e. to what extent they motivate and support their students when it comes to self-training. The research part of the study was conducted at the Institute of Translation Studies, Charles University, and at the Department of Translation Studies, University of Graz, with the aim to compare the situation at those two institutes taking into account the abovementioned criteria. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses interpreter's self-training in the context of deliberate practice and focuses also on group practice as well as on the teachers' role. It also presents methods, techniques and e-learning tools which students may find useful during their self-training. The empirical part consists of an analysis of the data collected by means of questionnaires at the abovementioned institutes.
