Joan of Arc, birth of a myth and the Johannine revival

The subject of this diploma thesis is the French national heroine Joan of Arc and her portrayal and reflection in literary works throughout the centuries. The diploma thesis mentions the historical personality of Joan of Arc in the context of the time she lived in, reconstructs the life of this French saint and deals with the rehabilitation process that completes the myth of the French national heroine. This diploma thesis summarizes the important European literary works that Joan of Arc is the most important theme. The diploma thesis deals more with literary works in which Joan of Arc is the main character but each author writes her story and describes her personality from a different point of view. And precisely these differences of the thesis are analyzed. The diploma thesis focuses more on the literary works of various authors such as Voltaire, Jules Michelet, Anatole France and Stéphen Coubé. The diploma thesis deals also with the portrayal of Joan of Arc in the 20th and 21st centuries.

This bachelor thesis focuses on the life and artwork of Camille Claudel, French sculptress that lived in the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. This thesis summarizes her life and focuses on the relationships with the members of her family, her friends and her teacher and lover, Auguste Rodin. It describes her childhood, teenage years and her start in the art of sculpture in Paris. Il also explains the lack of art education for women. Her relationship with Rodin was a key element in Claudel's life, it affected her artwork and her personal life. The thesis depicts their relationship from its beginning up to their break-up and describes the circumstances that probably led towards the end of the relationship. The thesis then sums up the artwork of Camille Claudel, describes the circumstances surrounding its creation and the response of art critics at that time. At the beginning of the 20th century Claudel started to experience psychological problems which eventually led her to mental institutions (Ville-Évrard and Montdevergues) where she spent thirty years until her death. The female characters in the work of George Sand

This thesis is concerned with an important persone of the first half of the 19th century, French writer George Sand. The main purpose of the thesis is to reveal whether the writer is one of the key authors of French romanticism in Czech schools and whether the Czech schoolchild has an opportunity to acquaint themselves with her rural novels. The thesis contains a theoretical and a practical part. The practical part briefly mentions her biography, gives an overview of the main periods of her work and is subsequently closely concerned with George Sand's rural novels. Since Sand creates an image of an ideal human being in her rural novels, in our analysis of these novels we focused on the characteristics of the main characters and on the realistic and idealistic elements present in the novels. In the end of the theoretical part we dealt with Sand's influence on Czech writers of the 19th century, especially on Božena Němcová and Karolína Světlá. The practical part is based on a research, which was conducted in selected Czech schools (in Pilsen area and Prague). The aim of this research was, as has been mentioned before, to chart the standing of George Sand in the curriculum of world literature.
