Comparison of living standards of the elderly in retirement homes and in households

This bachelor thesis deals with the satisfaction of the elderly in the retirement homes - with respect to their services in three institutions of this kind. For this purpose, a quantitative method of the personal interviews has been chosen (12 clients in total, 4 from each home). The primary aim of this research (as well as the work itself) is to describe and interpret the situation and eventually to suggest proper changes in order to improve the seniors' quality of life. The first, theoretical part consists form three chapters. First: aging, life stages, old age. Second: human needs, quality of life, satisfaction (well-being), ageism. Third: welfare services, social (welfare) workers, associated laws, institutions and activities. The practical (analytical) part states the research questions, the method and the aims of the research. Also, it introduces the respondents, presents the results of the research and assesses its outcomes, which are the following. The elderly gladly accept "non-institutional" environment and put emphasis on their private. They preferred varied and tasty diet rather than nutritious or "healthy".
