The Rite of Marriage in the Christian Western and Byzantine Traditions and in Jewish Tradition. An Attempt at a Comparison

Rite of Marriage in the Christian West and Byzantine Tradition and in Jewish Tradition. Attempt of the Comparison. Annotation: This baccalaureate work is focused on the celebration of rite of marriage in three traditions: in jewish, in christian byzantine and christian west tradition. The primary source for the comparison of above mentioned traditions is stated in the historical aside to the antic greco-roman rite of marriage and to the jewish tradition in which the evolution of this particular rite is throughout the history minimal. Historical aside is based on the identification of the essential elements and signs of the rite of marriage and its celebration form. There is a tracking of the influence of these cultures on particular christian traditions there and their mutual interaction with the respect to the historical setting and geographical circumstances. The attempt of the comparison of rites of marriage in selected traditions as they are celebrated nowadays is provided. There is also the attempt to compare the selected symbols and elements throughout the rite of marriage in all three selected traditions. Paschal Mystery Celebration in Roman and Byzantine Christian Tradition. Comparison Attempt. Abstract Dissertation deals with comparison outline of the Easter Mystery celebration in two liturgical traditions: in christian byzantine and christian west tradition. Thesis is based on the jewish First Pascha celebration and its celebration in the historical Jesus period and in His death and resurrection as the central event of the mankind salvation and christian life. The influence of the Old Testament Easter celebration is tracked in Easter celebration within early christian period followed by the form of the celebration in the 4th century and celebration in Middle Ages. Finally for the roman tradition the 20th century reform in its 2 steps was studied. For byzantine tradition the reformist reflecions and attempts over the last centuries. The core of the thesis is a comparison of actual celebration in both studied traditions and pinpointing of some basic elements and symbols which holds the strong theological meaning.
