Czech translations of Arabic prose writing after 1945

The present work provides a synoptic view of Arabic to Czech translation in the course of its history, paying special attention to translations of prose in the 1945/2005 period. The period is described in the context of previous development, both in the field of translation and cultural contacts with the Arab world. The work investigates the impact of cultural policy and political circumstances on the type of Arabic books translated. Translations themselves are examined with a focus on the translator's approach to cultural specific topics and two features related to it: exotization and academization. The work also includes a complete bibliography of Arabic to Czech translations published in books and periodicals in the 1945/2005 period.

Překládaná práce sleduje vývoj českého uměleckého překladu z arabštiny v letech 1945-2005. Toto období vkládá do kontextu předchozích etap jak z hlediska překladu, tak z hlediska kulturních kontaktů s arabským světem. Všímá si možného vlivu dobově podmíněné redakční politiky na typ vydávaných titulů. Vlastní překlady arabské prózy jsou hodnoceny se zvláštním zřetelem na přístup k převodu reálií a s ním spojených rysů jako exotizační tendence či akademizmus. Práce je doplněna o souhrnnou bibliografii knižních a časopiseckých překladů z arabštiny publikovaných v daném šedesátiletém období.
