Demand for cinemas - what determines the consumer behaviour?
Řeháková, Petra ; Mičúch, Marek (advisor) ; Kovanda, Lukáš (referee)
The main aim of this diploma thesis is to identify the determinants of behavior of demand for multiplexes in Prague. The main building material is the dataset of attendance and revenues evolution for individual movies distributed between years 2002 and 2011, always for the first four weeks from the premiere, provided by the Union of Film Distributors. The paper investigates consumer behavior on the movie market. The demand for movies is the dependent variable measured by the number of visitors in the corresponding weeks. The subject of analysis -- explanatory variable - is price, film rating (critics), genre, country of origin, character of time frame, frequency of screenings in a given week, format (2D/3D), length of movie, popularity of the actor/director, impact of movie series etc. The data are exposed to the regression according to which the significance of different variables is tested. The hypothesis about strong negative correlation of the price and quantity demanded is investigated based on the results, (Dewenter R., Westermann M., 2005) versus the hypothesis of weak sensitivity those two variables (Sangho Kim, 2009) against a more significant relationship of demand and other determinants. The influence of price on attendance has shown to be insignificant on the Prague movie market in the short term. A significant determinant impacting the attendance for a movie in the entire monitored period is the film rating, actor, length of movie, and number of screenings.
How close are days of payment and death?
Cahová, Veronika ; Houdek, Petr (advisor) ; Kovanda, Lukáš (referee)
In this work we studied the influence days of Payment of mortality within cardio and external cause of death between years 2008 -- 2010 in Czech Republic. The work concludes that the daily mortality in cardio cause sof death for the age group 20-64 years with higher liquidity in the days of Payment increases on average by 4,2 %. For both models for the age group 65+ years showed a statistical significance of the variable day of Payment of the economically active population, which can potentially explain a greater volume of transfers during half of month. Significant in the model are also some meteorological variables, namely the influence of rainfall, average temperature and change in temperature, as well as months December, January and July, according to which during the winter months, mortality increased by 5 -- 6,8 % in July decreases by 8 -- 9,6 %.
Information and Communication Technologies in the Czech Republic
Honsa, Viktor ; Mičúch, Marek (advisor) ; Kovanda, Lukáš (referee)
Development of information and communication technologies (ICT) has recently increasing importance. ICT has therefore become one of the effective tools in process of optimization and increase of competitiveness on the market. As a result of this trend, there are already some studies, having ambitions to explicitly formulate their importance. The application of ICT in the Czech Republic is similar, but there are not many studies with such ambitions. This thesis analyzes (i) the relations between, the use of ICT, total factor productivity and growth of gross added value in the Czech Republic in 1997-2007 based on growth accounting and (ii) based on econometric analysis of panel data for the Czech Republic, also estimates the importance of selected determinants influencing adoption of ICT. The output of the thesis consists of (i) determining the contribution of each input and discussion of possible synergies of ICT capital deepening and total factor productivity and (ii) specification of variables that are, based on the formulated model, shown to be statistically significant and they may affect the adoption of ICT.

Halíř, Jan ; Kovanda, Lukáš (advisor) ; Babin, Jan (referee)
The topic of this work is role of rating agencies in financial crisis. It differentiates consumer and corporate credit rating agencies. It shows the system of their work and failures and it's impact to the scenario of crisis. The work before and during the mortgage crisis and following financial crisis in USA. It summarizes the impact of securitization a structuralization to crisis, problems of FICO score and it's using. On the other hand It shows other interferences (mostly governmental). It shows that these interferences had bigger and direct influence on the crisis than regulated doing of rating agencies. Considering indisputable influence of credit rating agencies on the crisis and it's possible prolonging, I must claim that CRa's can't be blamed as the main cause of the crisis, but only as an amplifying factor.
Economic analysis of factors that influence women's decision of having children
Dušátková, Klára ; Svoboda, Miroslav (advisor) ; Kovanda, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis explores effects of chosen factors on fertility of women in the Czech Republic from 1993 to 2010. Part of my thesis is brief description of legislative framework of fertility issues and also description of demographic course in our country. The choice of factors is based on economic articles and books from world's authors. It is tested by using the regression analysis, how the fertility rate is influenced by the number of married women, the number of university-educated women, the unemployment rate of women, the value of social benefits paid for one child and the number of years since 1989. It was find, that the fertility rate grows with increasing number of university-educated women and with decreasing unemployment rate of women. Effect of the social benefits seems to be insignificant. Remaining factors were left out from my model because of multicollinearity.
Economic decisions of sellers on the discount servers
Škodová, Ivana ; Svoboda, Miroslav (advisor) ; Kovanda, Lukáš (referee)
The thesis examines, why sellers offer their products on servers of group buying. On the basis of the theory were chosen characteristics that can be expected from specific sellers' strategy. These assumptions are tested in practical part of the thesis by the questionnaire, which were submitted to sellers. The theory assumed with economies of scale will offer higher quantity of coupons necessary for activation of discounts. Advertising expected offers containing lesser number of coupons per customer. The time to which the offer applies should be the deciding factor for the demand fluctuation. The price discrimination should not limit total of coupons. At the same time the offer should not limit quantity of coupons per costumer. The outcome of this work is to refute thesis of economics of scale. On the contrary, advertising and fluctuation in demand already confirm thoughts offered by the theory. Even though the price discrimination followed theoretical assumptions it was not possible to collect enough data to confirm hypothesis.
