Supervision in the banking industry
Košař, Martin ; Vondráčková, Pavlína (advisor) ; Vybíral, Roman (referee)
The aim of the thesis on Supervision in banking industry is to define the nature of banking regulation and banking supervision, including the rationale for their existence and the analysis of their goals. Another task of this work is to explain the ways of functioning of the basic components of banking regulation and supervision encountered in countries with market economies. The work also highlights the different perspectives, as well as some shortcomings of selected issues and outlines possible solutions. Finally, the aim of the thesis is to critically evaluate selected arguments for and against implementation of the European concept of the Single Supervisory Mechanism, including the assessment of the appropriateness of the Banking Union as a whole. The work is divided into three main parts. The first part is theoretical in nature and focuses on fundamental bases of banking regulation and supervision, with emphasis on their nature, reasons, objectives and possibilities of institutional arrangements. The chapter is supplemented with a discussion of selected regulatory and supervisory authorities which operate internationally. The second part deal with the basic components of the system of bank regulation and supervision which are entry into banking sector, basic rules of banking activities,...
Mechanisms of replicative, drug- and oncogene-induced cellular senescence
Košař, Martin ; Bartek, Jiří (advisor) ; Strnad, Miroslav (referee) ; Mistrík, Martin (referee)
Cells continuously experience various forms of exogenous and endogenous stress stimuli. Cellular senescence, a state of permanent cell-cycle arrest, is a physiological response that prevents proliferation of damaged cells. It is an important tumor suppressive mechanism, because evading senescence in pre-malignant tumors leads to cancer progression. However, in the long term, senescence can also contribute to tissue aging. Our understanding of the causes and consequences of senescence can provide important insights into processes such as cancer development and aging and may help us design new therapeutic approaches. In the first part of my thesis, we investigated a relationship between two known tumor suppressor pathways, the DNA Damage Response (DDR) and the Alternative Reading Frame (ARF), in response to oncogenic insults. By using several mouse models, human clinical samples and cell culture models we showed, that ARF activation occurs at a later stage of tumor progression than activation of the DDR. Moreover, ARF activation requires a higher level (threshold) of oncogenic stress than DDR. Therefore, we proposed, that ARF represents a delayed and complementary barrier to tumor progression. Senescence-associated heterochromatin foci (SAHF) formation, representing pronounced changes in chromatin,...

Banking Union
Košař, Martin ; Vopátek, Jiří (advisor) ; Blažek, Martin (referee)
The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to introduce individual pillars of the Banking Union and critically evaluate appropriateness of the whole concept, to give selected arguments for and against the voluntary entry into the Banking Union and subsequently to make an analysis of selected benefits and opportunities complemented by an analysis of selected disadvantages and risks, which would stem from participation in the Banking Union, for a state whose currency is not the euro. Another task of the work is to assess impacts of participation of the Czech Republic in the Banking Union. The research question is whether voluntary participation in the Banking Union is advantageous for the Czech Republic or not. The bachelor's thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter introduces the concept of the Banking Union, including its individual pillars. The second chapter focuses on the possibility of voluntary participation in the Banking Union for the states whose currency is not the euro, and it also includes arguments for and against establishing close cooperation. The third chapter is represented by an analysis of benefits, opportunities, disadvantages and risks of voluntary participation in the Banking Union which is followed by an impact analysis of eventual participation of the Czech Republic. In conclusion, there is recapitulated the result of the analyses which consists in the recommendation to the Czech Republic not to join the Banking Union voluntarily.
