Cameras for digital cinematography, specifications and quality measures

This thesis is about essential digital cameras and technologies, which are used by directors of photography for shooting feature films, commercials and television content. I focused mainly on cameras, that are available to the public in your 2012, which are for example Arri Alexa, RED EPIC, Sony F65, Phantom FLEX, Phantom 65 and few more semi-professional cameras. In my thesis I also look back on the beginnings and history of digital cameras from 1990?s, when first cameras emerged that were at least able to compete with film negative, and on the development of second generation of digital cameras as Panavision Genesis, Arri D20-D21 and RED ONE. Part of my work is also devoted to technical properties and specifications, which are required from current high-end cameras.

3 D imaging and the illusion of space in the projection

This Bachelor´s Thesis deals with the principle of 3D imaging and creating the illusion of space in the projection. It familiarises readers with spatial vision psychophysiology and with technical aspects of stereoscopic recording and performing. It further explains connectedness of the whole production chain from scanning to the stereoscopic projection. The thesis also provides summary of systems used in the cinema nowadays, its positives and negatives and provides its comparison. This Bachelor´s Thesis describes in detail the experiments where several model situations have been scanned and which have proved and revealed some rules, that may have been an useful guide for the preparation of shooting stereoscopic image.

Technical Aspects of Imaging in Cinematography

This thesis is focused on practical tests of contemporary video technology, comparing several standard and high definition camcorders, to find out it´s real qualities, also compared to the digital intermediate technolgy. At the end there is a list of the best tools available for digital cinematography questioning if it can be compared to the quality of film or if it insn´t already better.
