Residual ancient landscape segments in Carpathians of Moravian-Slovak borderland
Kolejka, Jaromír ; Nováková, Eva ; Kirchner, Karel
The Moravian Carpathians border region is a large area located in the east of the Czech Republic. Historically, most of the time it was a peripheral border area between the Czech state and Hungary. The well-preserved segments of pre-industrial landscape were inventoried here. They have such arrangement of land use, which originated in the period before the main wave of the industrial revolution in the Czech lands (i.e. before 1850), and has been preserved until present. A total of 182 segments of pre-industrial landscape were identified. Spatial analysis of their location in the area shows that the highest concentration of segments is near the international border (50% up to 10 km from the border), in dissected highland relief (52%), but often in the foothills between 300-500 meters above sea level (51%). Due to their location and appearance, they can represent interesting geotourist objects in the border area.
The optimization of forest management strategies on slopes affected by landslides and rock falling – a methodology for forest-planting practices
Bajer, A. ; Balková, M. ; Buček, A. ; Divíšek, Jan ; Friedl, M. ; Halas, Petr ; Kirchner, Karel ; Kuda, František ; Lacina, Jan ; Martiník, A. ; Roštínský, Pavel ; Simon, J. ; Vavříček, D.
Landslides, as well as rock falling, are among natural disturbances, the origin of which the forest management has only a secondary influence. On the other hand, adequate management can reduce the risk of landslides (rock falling). In some specific cases, it can be expected that this management can also prevent origin of landslides. The basic recommendation in the area of forest cultivation in areas affected by landslides is the creation of forest stands of species, age and thickness (height) differentiated, with a small-scale texture. In some cases it is also possible to recommend the shape of the associated forest. Consistent management of the forest transport network must be an integral part of measures in risk areas.
Cultural functions and services of geodiversity within urban areas (with a special regard on tourism and recreation)
Kubalíková, Lucie ; Bajer, A. ; Drápela, E. ; Zapletalová, D. ; Kirchner, Karel ; Balková, M. ; Zágoršek, K. ; Kuda, František ; Roštínský, Pavel
Geodiversity (or abiotic nature) within urban areas has numerous functions and offers various benefits and services. In addition, it has strong links to cultural heritage and historical aspects and it influences and is influenced by urban development and planning. The geodiversity functions and services can be sorted according to the ecosystem services approach: regulating, supporting, provisioning and cultural services. The last mentioned includes a wide spectrum of aspects (spiritual, religious, historical, archaeological, social, artistic, sense of place etc.) and besides this, it encompasses also the tourist and recreational functions which are (in some cases) unexplored and underestimated in urban areas. The paper presents examples from two different Czech cities – Brno and Liberec. Selected geocultural sites are described and assessed and specific proposals for tourist, recreational and educational use are outlined. The results of evaluation show that they can represent an interesting alternative to the traditional tourist destinations within urban areas.
GEOSITE AND GEOMORPHOSITE ASSESSMENT FOR GEOTOURISM PURPOSE: A CASE STUDY FROM THE VIZOVICKA VRCHOVINA HIGHLAND, EASTERN MORAVIA
Kirchner, Karel ; Kubalíková, Lucie
Geotourism can be understood at a broader sense as geographical tourism sustaining environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage and the well-being of residents of a place or in a more restricted sense as a form of nature tourism that specifically focuses on landscape and geology. Geological, geomorphological and pedological sites are the most important resource for the geotourism activities. It is evident that not every site can be used for geotourism purposes. To find out which site can be used, it is necessary to identify, describe and assess various sites using a suitable assessment methodology. Based on the definition and conceptsof geotourism and the assessment methods already used for geomorphosite assessment, authors propose five groups of assessment criteria. The method was used for assessing selected sites in the Vizovickavrchovina Highland (Eastern Moravia, Outer Western Carpathians). Thanks to the assessment of the sites in this region, some potential geotourism resources were identified. Although the proposed method is numerical which should reduce the subjectivity, there is always a degree of subjectivity due to the fact that the real value of some criteria cannot be measured and it depends on assessor's experience, knowledge and preferences.

Geodiversity, secondary geodiversity and cultural heritage
Kirchner, Karel ; Kubalíková, Lucie ; Kuda, František ; Havlíček, M. ; Machar, I. ; Pechanec, V.
Within the framework of the NAKI II project – Cultural heritage of landscape of the Archdiocese of Olomouc - research, presentation and management (DGB 16P02B014), we focus on the results that will contribute to the sustainable development of regional cultural identity through applied cultural heritage research in the cultural landscape of the area of interest. As part of the material cultural heritage, we include the landforms that originated from the conscious activity of man - the anthropogenic relief forms. These landforms complement the geodiversity of the landscape and are referred to as secondary geodiversity, their identification and interpretation will make it possible to complement and enhance the diversity of cultural heritage and to specify the development of the cultural landscape. The first results from the Archdiocese of Olomouc are presented.

The first results from the area of Central Moravia will be presented with the using of the historical maps, the digital model of the relief DMR5G and the field research.

Assessment of anthropogenic landforms for the geotourism purposes (case study: Velké Opatovice fortification site, Archdiocese of Olomouc, Czech Republic)
Kirchner, Karel ; Kubalíková, Lucie ; Machar, I.
The human impact on the relief is often very devastating: natural landforms are modified, damaged or destroyed and the intensity of human-induced processes even surpasses the natural ones. However, people also create new landforms which are interesting from geoconservation, educational, cultural and historical points of view. Thanks to these aspects, they also have a potential for geotourism, geoeducation and recreation. For the assessment of anthropogenic landforms (respectively anthropogenic geosites and geomorphosites), a method based on the concept of geomorphosties and taking into account the holistic approach to geotourism, is proposed. The article presents an example of anthropogenic landforms on geo-cultural site Velke Opatovice fortification site situated in the western part of the Archdiocese of Olomouc. Based on the detailed fieldwork, the inventory of landforms and other features, the assessment and some proposals for geotourist use of the site are presented.

Standardized identification procedure of segments of pre-industrial landscape for the Moravia Regions
Kolejka, Jaromír ; Kirchner, Karel
The Czech pre-industrial landscape is dated to the period before the main wave of the industrial revolution, now before the year 1850. It bears the sings of relatively uninterrupted socio-economic and cultural development of the mid-17th century with regard to local natural conditions. Its surviving relics are not recorded in the Czech Republic except declared and planned landscape conservation zones. Especially numerous smaller areas with a characteristic spatial structure of arable land, roads, buildings, lakes and forested areas were not covered and mapped. The present paper deals with the original identification procedure of segments of pre-industrial landscape. Our approach is based on a comparison of the various cartographic data (historical maps from the 2nd Military Survey, indicator sketches of cadastral maps, current maps and images) and identification process contains five basic steps.
