Regional identity in Czech - Polish borderland : case study of the Broumov region

9 Abstract The study deals with regional identity in Czech-Polish borderland. The Broumov region is an example of peripheral region which is suitable for research of forming of regional identity regarding its history (expulsion of Germans after World War II). This ressetled region is compared with neighbouring regions without this historical experience (the Náchod region and Nové Město nad Metují region). The main aims are to analyze how inhabitans perceive his regional identity, how evaluate attractiveness of neigbouring towns and what take for regional symbols. The research is based on questionnaire inquiry.

Increased pressure is put on national and regional economies to continuously upgrade their competitive advantages and at the same time new learning opportunities occur at a faster rate than ever. As a result, in recent years, almost all have come to a consensus that today's advanced economies are "knowledge-based" economies -economies directly based on the production, distribution and use of knowledge where learning and innovation creation is the most fundamental process for competitiveness not only for firms and organizations, but also for nations and regions. Parallel to the globalization process there are, however, strong forces of localization. Activity of Regional Development Actors on the Case of Community Initiative Programme INTERREG IIIA Czech Republic - Austria

The thesis submitted focuses on regional differentiation of local and regional development actors and on results of their activities. The analysis has been conducted on the case of Community Initiative Programme INTERREG IIIA Czech Republic - Austria implemented in 2004-2006 programming period on the Czech territory. The analysis provided is set in context of European Union Economic and Social Cohesion Policy evaluation. Essential sources of data for the analysis are the outputs from Monitoring system of Structural Funds-MONIT. Integral part of the analysis is evaluation of regional differentiation of regional development actors following their place of projects realized. Thematic typology of projects and involvement of Austrian partners in projects realized on territory of Regions of South Bohemia, Vysočina and South Moravia have been addressed.
