Development of cross-border cooperation in the years 1989 - 2011 between Czechia and Germany: Case study of the Prachatice and the Freyung-Grafenau districts
Štemberková, Růžena ; Havlíček, Tomáš (referee) ; Jeřábek, Milan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the development of the present cross-border cooperation in the Prachatice district and the Freyung-Grafenau disttrict after the year 1989. To point out the increasing role of the European Union, particularly in this border region, before and after the entry to the EU in the guarantee of the regional development. In the frame of the given aim of the work the following hypothesis were formulated: The most important participants of the cross-border cooperation are more the institutions of the Euroregion than the activities of clubs and interest groups. The intensity of the cross-border cooperation is territorially differentiated. In the regional development the bigger towns in the district play a bigger role than small towns or villages, also thank to a bigger engagement and interest of the participants - the representatives of the authorities in the other regional, border and national institutions, and thanks to the funds from the EU. In small towns and villages the cross-border and Euroregional cooperation is, also in the regional development, declaratively discussed at many meetings, but practically there is neither potential nor its utilization. On the German side the towns and villages of the Euroregion are able to make efforts to gain the sources for the...
Social abd human capital as a factor of development of peripheral areas of Czechia
Pileček, Jan ; Jančák, Vít (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Milan (referee) ; Kostelecký, Tomáš (referee)
Within the framework of the research focused on the polarization of space, or peripheral areas of Czechia respectively, approaches of cultural geography have been applied to a significant extent recently. As far as the issue of such areas development is concerned, the importance of the so- called "soft" socio-cultural development factors (including social and human capital) has been accentuated. The way-out is the belief that with the limited development potential of the peripheral (and rural) areas, activity and activism of local communities (quality of social and human capital) as the important internal (endogenous) development factor become more important. Despite the number of attempts, which have been made, we are not able to find exhaustive answers to questions relating to the actual importance of social and human capital (and different forms thereof) in the (socio-economic) development of these areas or the mutual relation (conditionality) thereof. For this reason, problems can be seen both in the area of theory and methodology (conceptualization) and, in particular, in insufficient verification of such theoretical concepts by means of empirical research, be specific in particular at the micro-regional up to local level. The dissertation therefore focuses on identification and explanation of...
