The development of the circulatory diseases mortality in selected European countries

The aim of the thesis is to compare the level and the development of mortality due to diseases of the circulatory system in selected European countries in the period 1968-2006 (8th-10th revision ICD). The development of cardiovascular mortality is contextualized into the changes of the overall mortality and viewed in connection with the structural changes of the mortality conditions in concerned countries, that means the mortality by another causes of death, mortality by age and sex. The changes of the mortality level and the proportion of most frequent circulatory diseases are analyzed within the whole group of circulatory diseases. Afterwards the thesis focuses on risk factors, prevention and the treatment methods of cardiovascular diseases. The following part includes cluster analysis based on selected mortality indicators. The analyses conclude that different development of the mortality due to diseases of the circulatory system was the major cause of divergent trends in the overall mortality between the Western European countries and the post-communist countries. The level of cardiovascular mortality in the first group of countries decreased considerably during the observed period.
