Network protection testing and DoS attacks protection

The aim of this Master thesis is a testing of Cisco ASA\,5510 firewall with affect of Denial of Service attacks. Part of the thesis is a teoretical description some of the attacks and practical tests. Practical part covers basic testing of Cisco ASA with Spirent Avalanche 3100B. Number of TCP connections per second and firewalls throughput on 7th layer of ISO/OSI model were tested. Also the effect of Denial of Service attacks on the throughput. In a next part there is described one possible way how to generate Denial of Service attacks from a Linux server to the firewall. Python scripts were used for generation DoS packets. With those scripts it is possible to generate five types of attacks.

Socioeconomic predictors of alcohol consumption patterns in the Czech adult population

This empirical study focuses on the relation between individual social and economic variables and patterns of alcohol consumption in the Czech Republic. The work is divided into two parts. The first one concentrates on an exploratory analysis of a cross-sectional dataset. The results of this part reveal that several variables are significantly correlated with alcohol consumption, namely education, marital status and household income. The second part attempts to get closer to the actual causal effects of unemployment and household income on alcohol consumption by employing the Arellano- Bond estimator on a separate panel dataset. The results somewhat differ from the first part, with household income having a noticeably higher point estimate. The aim of this thesis is to bring more current and, most importantly, more robust results to the research on the topic.

How long does it take until the positive effects of structural reforms do materialize?

This thesis studies the topic of the effects of structural reforms over time. The research performed until now has suggested that the dynamic effects of reforms are clear, with neutral effects or costs in the short term, and important benefits in the medium to long term. In order to verify this seemingly settled view, this thesis tests the robustness of a well-established research paper on this topic by using an extended dataset and performing modifications to the measurement of several variables in the underlying model. Our results do not confirm the usual hypotheses, showing effects that are mostly not statistically or practically significant.

An Analysis of the Civil Protection Transformation in the Czech Republic from 1918 to the Present with a Proposal of the Future Inhabitants Protection

Civil protection as well as the protection of the population is a dynamic field which has a deep history in the Czech Republic dating back to the dark time of World War I. The civil protection was first based on the voluntariness principle. The real origin of the civil protection came with Act No. 82/1935 Coll. on the protection and defense against air attacks. The aim of this thesis is to characterize the protection of the population and propose the future direction of protecting of the population through changes or innovations that would strengthen the protection of the population. In the practical part of this thesis is based on the research question: "Has the civil protection transformation established a reliable system that does not require either major changes or minor changes?" The research part of the thesis is based on a qualitative research. The practical part of the thesis is based on a research method "structured interview". The structured interviews were conducted with the experts at the regional level all seven territorial departments of the Fire and Rescue Services of the South Bohemian Region. The conclusion of this thesis (mainly based on the strucutred interviews with the experts) is a statement that by the civil protection transformation was created a reliable system of protection of the population with a minor space for improvement. The fundamental change in the system would be a consolidation of the system legislative into a separate law on civil protection / protection of the population. The current crisis legislation would be subordinate to this Act. Other proposed changes to the protection of the population and its further direction of protection of the population are presented in the section "Conclusion".
