Law and Order of the Kingdom of Chosŏn during the 18th Century.

(in English): Since its foundation, the kingdom of Chosŏn has been culturally and politically connected with the Ming China from which Chosŏn adopted written codes, penal system and administrative structure. At the same time, the legal system of the two states was not identical for various reasons. This differentiation has been increasing over the course of several centuries. The 18th century saw the greatest rise in terms of criminal legislation, and some of today's scholars view this period as the advent of humanism and enlightenment in Korea. This diploma thesis deals with the historical development of criminal law and written codes during the Chosŏn period (14th - 18th century), and with the issue of the Korean state penal system as it was at the end of the 18th century.

Deaf Culture in Republic of Korea

The aim is to focus on development of Deaf culture in the Republic of Korea. The thesis focuses not only on hearing impairment and the distribution of hearing loss categories from a medical point of view, but also the Deaf community and the importance of their own identities, which played a major role in the Deaf culture. It will also point to changes in Korean majority society's view on the Deaf community, and what caused Korean society's view to change. The part of this thesis is also focused on the history and characteristics of Korean sign language, which is considered to be the mother language of the deaf, methods of educating the deaf and the various alternative ways of communication that educators have developed and compared to education in Korean sign language. The food as a part of traditional rituals in Korea

The aim of this paper is to provide a brief exploration of the Korean ritual system within the framework of relevant religio-philosophical systems, analysis of representative rituals, description of their structure and the use of ritual props and foods. Examined are the cooking and serving requirements of the meals and the function they have within the rituals. Special attention is paid to ritual meals of Buddhist monks, which are examined in comparison with ritual offerings as made to ancestors, the tradition which is widespread and vividly evident, even within today's Confucian culture. Modern Korean Journalism (Outline of Development with Particular Reference to the Park Chung-hee Period)

The thesis concerns the development of Korean journalism during sociopolitical changes in Korean society from the end of 19th century until the gradual rise of democracy at the end of eighties of the 20th century. The first part of the thesis addresses formation of South Korean press since the opening of the country and establishment of first periodicals to the flourishing of nationalist press at the turn of the century. The next part describes the period of Japanese occupation, its restrictive outset, modest politics of the twenties and the main censorship apparatus of the Japanese colonial administration. The main part concerns the post-war development of Korean journalism and essential changes in media politics of the then government. Primarily the president Park Chung-hee's period is emphasized, where individual chapters describe used censorship mechanisms, state interventions into press independence, including indirect censorship that is closely related to economic growth of media companies in the sixties. This thesis deals with Japanese invasion to Korea between years 1592 - 1598, known as Imjin War. The thesis analyses historical development of the conflict and defines basic tactics and strategy with focus on Korean participation in this war and Korean army. North Korean Ideologization of History (Focusing on Main Events of the 20th Century)

This bachelor thesis deals with interpretation of modern Korean historiography, focusing on North Korean historiography of 20th century and influence of juche state ideology. The second part of the thesis introduces selected examples of revisionism of Korean history based on North Korean sources. This part focuses on the Korean ancient times until the era of Three Kingdoms, beginning of the modern era and most importantly on the interpretation of the most significant events of 20th and 21st century. The last part of the thesis introduces some aspects of contemporary revisions and trends in the interpretation of Korean history.

Military Prostitution and its Organization in Colonial Korea

The aim of this work is to describe the issue of military prostitution during the colonial period in Korea. After a brief introduction and terminological and methodological definition, which will define further considerations discussed, paper describes the historical background of military prostitution in colonial Korea. A description of the socio-economic consequences of the historical development with focus on specifics of military prostitution in Korea, resulting from historical and socio-economic context will follow. The work also outlines the issue of legal and illegal prostitution and its place in Korean history in the context of the colonial period. After the theoretical part, the task is to present context, the work will elaborate the issue of military prostitution, focusing on the description of the structure and organization of military prostitution during the Japanese occupation of Korea from its beginnings until its formal repeal, respectively. The Establishment of Museums in Korea and Their Educational Role

5 Abstract: The aim of this thesis is firstly to deal with the emergence and development of museums on the Korean peninsula and since 1948 only in the Republic of Korea. Secondly it aims to concentrate on their educational activities. The very first modern museum in Korea called the Imperial Museum was established at the beginning of the 20th century. A year after the museum opened its door to the public, Korea was annexed by Japan. That had a great impact on the development of the first museums in Korea. After the liberation from Japanese rule in 1945 the museums were handed over to Koreans. Museum activity had only just begun when the Korean War broke out. The focus of the following part is the National Museum of Korea (NMK), the most important museum in South Korea. For most of its history the museum moved from one place to another. In 2005 it finally found its place in a newly built modern building in Soul's district called Jongsan. By taking NMK as an example the thesis explores the museum educational activities. It offers a closer look at programs for foreigners and the growing number of immigrants and senior citizens, popular lecture series, wide range of guided tours etc. Finally, some exhibition projects are introduced. Male Oficial Costume in Chosŏn Period

Throughout the history of traditional Korean clothing there have been various foreign influences, numerous reforms and changes, yet all this time it kept one distinctive feature: being an indicator of the wearer's social status and rank. This very feature was emphasized and strictly followed especially during the Chosŏn period (1392-1910). Placing emphasis on the male court clothing, this thesis pursues identifying individual attires and uniforms for the royal family and civil and military officials, who are associated with the royal court. It also depicts history of court clothing, most frequently used materials and weaving techniques in brief.
