Cultural Institutes as an Instrument for Public Diplomacy

This work focuses on cultural institutes as an instrument of public diplomacy. Aim of the work is twofold: to analyze functioning of an institute and to create a consistent picture of its activities. The first chapter is dedicated to the role of public diplomacy and its relationship with cultural diplomacy. The second chapter examines various aspects of work of an institute. Conclusions of the analysis are then integrated in a general model of cultural presentation carried out by an institute. The last chapter analyzes determining elements and activities of the French, Spanish, Polish, and Slovak cultural institutes in Prague.
Řecký postoj k otázce Kosova a jeho nezávislosti

This work analyzes the way two Greek journals, namely To Víma and Ta Néa, reflect the Kosovo affair in the period between the NATO intervention in Kosovo in 1999 and its unilateral declaration of independence. Most of them are characterized by strong antiamericanism which is by far their most typical common feature. This antiamericanism manifested itself most apparently in the period of the NATO intervention in Kosovo in 1999. The analysis reveals, that to the authors of the published articles they were important other factors for their stance than those important to the greek government for whom the muslim minority in Thrace could be deciding. This objective factor was In the authors' articles outweighed by their antiamericanism, determined by developments in Greece after the Second World War and which still influences the Greeks' stance towards the U.S. foreign policy.
Henry Kissinger and the Vietnam War: Henry Kissinger's thoughts as an academic and practical application from the position of statesman

The main objective of this thesis is to clarify the background of steps, taken by Henry Kissinger during the Vietnam War in time, when he occupied position of the National Security Advisor of the United States of America. The second objective is to point at the position and evolution of the Vietnam War in US foreign policy context. The first part deals with analysis of Kissinger's academic papers, thoughts and approaches. The second part focuses on the description of US presidents aprroaches towards Vietnam. The aim of the last part is to compare Kissinger's diplomatic initiatives during the Vietnam War with his academic concepts.
The comparison of approaches to analisis on the value system of russian culture

The thesis deals with the cultural value system of Russia from the point of view of two experts - Hofstede and Inglehart. First part of the thesis explains methods that are used in the each of approaches. It gives brief explanation of cultural dimensions according to which the value system of the country is made up. Theoretical outlook is used in the next part for the practical application of dimensions on the russian culture. The aim of the thesis is to compare two mentioned approaches and their results given about the value system of russian culture.
Causes of Failure of Nation - Building in South Vietnam

The USA started nation-building in South Vietnam in 1954 after the Geneva Agreements. The USA wanted to build a state which would prevent expansion of communism to other states in Asia. This program failed and finally, in 1976 South Vietnam and North Vietnam were reunited into a single communist Vietnam. The goal of this bachelor thesis is to identify factors that caused nation-building in South Vietnam to fail. The causes of failure of nation-building are classified in three main levels - American policy in South Vietnam, South Vietnam and extern factors like the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Soviet Union and People's Republic of China.
Development of Slovak-Hungarian Relations in Context of the Dispute Gabčíkovo-Nagymaros

The thesis deals with the development of Slovak-Hungarian relations from the 50`s on. The need for close cooperation between Czechoslovakia and Hungary emerged during the building of the dam Gabčíkovo-Nagymaros. The period of Kadarism in Hungary and the inauguration of Alexander Dubček into the post of Secretary of Communist Party favoured bilateral plans in Eastern block. Undergoing social and political changes in the 80`s caused politization of the issue in Hungary and different perception by both sides of the Treaty of 16 September 1977. Even after the unilateral execution of the option-C by Slovakia and the International Court of Justice judgement, Slovakia still insists on the implementation of the foundng Treaty. Hungary now seems to be trying to evade this unpleasant question of the past.
The Expansion of Russian Companies through Foreign Direct Investments

The bachelor thesis focuses primarily on analyzing foreign direct investments of Russian companies. Their growing foreign investment activity started to draw attention mainly because of rising concerns over the nature and reasons for the investments. The most notorious case is Gazprom which often provokes speculations whether its investments are of purely economic motivations or political reasons can be also found behind them. These speculations reflect the shift in the ownership structure of the companies and their investment targets in host countries.
Russian-Georgian relations and the war on Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The thesis deals with the causes and process of the war in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It examine whether the war was affected by relations with Russia and Georgia and whether Russia were used to it to maintain its influence in the Caucasus. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is devoted to relations between Russia and Georgia and their historical contingency. The second part deals with ethnic conflicts in Georgia, their emergence, progress and solutions. The third part analyzes the war in South Ossetia in August 2008, the causes of its inception, its progress and impact on Georgia and the rest of the world.

Práce se věnuje postavení Ruska v mezinárodní politice s důrazem na počátek 21. století. Současná stanoviska a postoje jsou definovány na základě historických souvislostí. Pozornost je věnována zejména vztahu Ruska ke klíčovým regionům a problémům současného světa. Detailněji jsou rozebírána nejdůležitější partnerství, tedy ke Spojeným států, Evropské unii, Společenství nezávislých států a v neposlední řadě i k Číně. Rovněž je nastíněno ukotvení jeho postavení na současné mezinárodní scéně a načrtnuty možné linie vývoje do budoucna.
